In many parts of India people are fasting for the past 9 days. Even my family - me are fasting.

Congrats to all Hindu friends............ If i am not wrong Ram Vavami is the birthday of Ram? correct me if i am wrong

Yes it is Zaki. At the same time it also has navratras for goddess Durga at some places where people fast for 9 days. On the 9th day small girls are fed with food and taken their blessings as generally small girls are considered as the manisfestation of godess herself. In Hinduism women and godess Durga is taken as the ultimate and the supreme source of power beyond everything and everything originates from her and ends in her .though there is conflict for the same with Vaishnavaites and Shivaites.

so wats the status of Ram in Hinduism? and who is the supreme power? Eishvar?

congrats guys, got a question though: is it when people dance after 9 days with sticks? i have heard the word navratri; not sure if i am thinking the same festival. Nevertheless, congratulations and celebrations :)

guess this is different from Dandiya (9 days dance mostly celebrated by Gujarati community).....in Mumbai we used to have a lot of fun during Dandiyas...:chilli:

Ajpirjada thats a bit complex question....

Actually as many think Hinduism including hindus as the polytheist religion which in fact it is not. When we say we pray to a specific god we are indirectly praying to the supreme being.

Here we have 3 beliefs

Shivaites who believe that everything originated from him and he is the supreme being.

Vaishnavites who believe that vishnu was the all creator and he is the supreme being

And finally those who believe in Shakti whose manisfestation is Durga.

Ram was basically reincarnation of lord Vishnu in the human form. People pray to Ram indirectly praying to Vishnu. Praying to Ram or Krishna means praying to Vishnu only.

actually we have 2 navratras. one is at this time and second one is at the time of dashera 20 days prior to diwali in months of october november. at that time that dance with sticks and all goes on.
