And soon Israel will fail to uphold a system to defend itself from being conquered. You guys will suffer the same fate as the Jewish tribes of Arabia. Extermination or assimilation.

Don’t let gloomy prophecies about Israel deceive you

Op-ed: There are good people living in this country, rightists and leftists, religious and secular, Israelis with optimism, patience and a deep understanding that we have more in common than what divides us.

Don’t believe those who defame this country. Don’t let their gloomy prophecies deceive you.

An absolute majority of settlers are strongly against any kind of violence, but all you see is the tiny nasty minority that throws stones. An absolute majority of leftists—yes, even those who live in slandered Tel Aviv—are people who love Israel, real patriots who are concerned about its future.

Tel Aviv is a wonderful Hebrew city, a city as beautiful as many European cities, and the loud attempt to brand it as a piece of detachment and espresso is idiotic and offensive. The leftists are liberal exemplary citizens who seek good, even if most of the noise is made by a loud, post-Zionist minority looking for clicks on the Haaretz website.

Most Haredim understand that what took place in the past won’t go on. Some of them, people like Yehuda Meshi Zahav, proudly send their children to the army, others go out to work, and there are those who are still afraid, but deep in their hearts they are hoping and looking for ways to integrate. It’s taking them time, but they understand that this is the direction. Only a minority of Haredim block roads and insult girls and curse soldiers. A loud minority, which is receiving a lot of media coverage.

And the Arabs you meet in your day-to-day life, those who I meet just like that, hanging out at a Jerusalem mall like me, do they have anything to do with Knesset Member Hanin Zoabi? Do they want anything apart from a quiet life and good neighborly relations?

And for every corrupt mayor, there are 100 who serve their city loyally, and for every Israeli who loses control on a plane, there are countless Israelis who volunteer in charity organizations and are working to improve the world.

We have a polarization industry going on here. On the margins of our society, there are people working to define themselves by denying the other. They use generalizations. They live off the rift. But we must not let them win. Let’s take the advice of Rabbi Elazar, who said in the Talmud’s Chullin tractate: “The world exists only on account of (the merit of) he who restrains himself in strife, for it is written: He hanges the earth upon nothing.”

We would not have reached such great achievements as a state without the distinguished people living here, Israelis who know how to rise above a crisis, people of vision and ethics. There are good people living in this country, rightists and leftists, religious and secular, who understand that this is a Jewish state but are strongly against coercion, politically pragmatic people, people who are capable of engaging in an argument but who don’t stop loving, Israelis who are unwilling to despair, Israelis with optimism and patience and a deep understanding that we have more in common than what divides us, and that “her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.”

Happy Independence Day!

. . . . . . . . .
Independence cannot be given. It can only be taken by those who are ready and capable to carry its burden.

It was clearly given to you by British and westerners, you took the chance and stole all the land you could. Don't twist it, you have nothing to be proud of when it comes to 'independence'.

Merry Nakba to you too.

POLL: ARAB CITIZENS THINK HIGHER OF ISRAEL THAN ITS JEWISH CITIZENS DO

Despite kvetching, survey finds that Israel at 69 is largely content, optimistic.

As Israel turns 69 on Monday, a nation prone to endless kvetching is more content with its lot then one would gather from the media or conversations around Shabbat evening tables, according to a poll released Sunday by the Israel Democracy Institute.

According to the poll, fully 71% of the population said that their personal situation is “good” or “very good,” with only 3% defining it as “bad” or “very bad.” Another 25% said their situation is “okay.”

That was on the individual level.

On the collective level, some 47.5% of the population said that Israel’s situation today is either “very good” or “good,” with only 15% saying “bad” or “very bad,” and another 40% saying “okay.” The rest either did not know or did not reply.

What is interesting, and perhaps even counterintuitive, is that the percentage of Arabs who said that the country is in good or very good shape was significantly higher than the Jewish respondents who said so. Among Arabs, fully 66% said that Israel’s situation is either “good” or “very good,” and some 12% gave the country a “bad” or “very bad” grade.

Among the Jewish population, which according to recently released Central Bureau of Statistics figures make up 74.7% of the population, 44% rated the country as good or better, some 22% less than among the Arab sector. But when it comes to their own individual situation, 57% of Arabs say they are doing well, while 74% of the Jews have a rosy outlook on their own situation.

Despite endless chatter about a country that is losing its “soul” and/or its moral and democratic compass, fully 80% of the general public is proud to be Israeli, a number that rises to 86% when asked of the Jewish population.

Only 13% of the Jews say they are not proud, while that number increases to 40% among Arabs. Even among Arabs, however, more than half (51%) responded that they are proud to be Israeli.

As a comparative figure, a Gallup poll in March found that 75% of Americans said they are either “extremely” or “very” proud to be American.

The institute’s poll shows that Israelis continue to be inveterate optimists, with 71% of the public saying they are either optimistic or very optimistic about the future, and only 24% taking a pessimistic look at the future. Not bad, considering the country has Hezbollah on one border, Islamic State and variations of al-Qaida on another and Hamas on a third; with the threat of a nuclear Iran hovering above; and Palestinian terrorism lurking around the corner.

Regarding Israeli attitudes toward the country’s achievements in a number of different spheres, 81% of the public sees Israel’s ability to maintain the country’s security as “moderately good” or “good,” 70% had good things to say about the health system, 62% gave high marks to the economy and 61% said the country’s achievements in education and science are good or very good.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that only 24% said the country is doing well in narrowing the social gaps, and 72% of the public responded negatively when asked how successful the country is at responding to what the citizens want.

The poll was conducted by telephone on April 18 and 19 among 600 respondents, constituting a representative national sample of the adult population aged 18 and over. The margin of error is ±4.1%.

Wow a poll of 600 by phone conducted by the Israel democracy institute, how could it be wrong?

I mean if a Arab home received a anonymous phone call asking them about how wonderful Israel was they would of course condemn it without fear of shin beth turning upo_O
