Media reports are mostly paid for. During MMRCA 2.0, there were articles which popped up every month stating IAF was going for the F-16 or the Gripen or additional Rafales. In the end, IAF went for 40 LCA Mk-1s and will be going for 83 LCA Mk-1A until MWF takes shape

The reason IN rejected the N-LCA is they're hell bent on operating a twin engine fighter from their carriers which IN made clear on several occasions. Moreover, LCA falls in the light category while carrier borne fighters typically require longer range and endurance for effective ops. IN is infact most pro when it comes to indigenous platforms. Over the past two decades, majority of IN's surface and sub-surface fleet have been designed by IN's Naval Design bureau and built at local shipyards

Based on India's technical know-how in pretty much every area of high-technology, why would you expect anything less than an almost nil input into one of the highest technology product types there are, fast jet combat aircraft.
