"Had Abhinandan Varthaman Been Flying Rafale...": Ex-Air Chief

Flying the Erieye in meet ups with the Qatari Rafales should allow for adequate data on how to detect the rafale from various angles and approaches. Coupling that with IRST pods and other sensors on Block II JF-17s and PAF should have the perfectly calibrated Block III to deal with the Rafale from Day 1.

I wonder why IAF was NOT prepared the same way despite having access to Singaporean F-16 Block-52's for many years!

"Had Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman been flying a Rafale instead of a MiG 21, the outcome would have been different," BS Dhanoa said.

Mumbai:

Referring to the row over the purchase of Rafale fighter jets, former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa on Saturday said that such controversies slow down defence acquisitions, affecting the armed forces' capabilities.

"Had Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman been flying a Rafale instead of a MiG 21 during the India-Pakistan stand-off post the Balakot strike, the outcome would have been different," he said.

Speaking at an event at IIT- Bombay, former Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa said that the Supreme Court gave a "fine judgment" on the Rafale issue (giving a clean chit to the Narendra Modi government).

"I have always personally maintained that if you politicise the defence acquisition system, the whole system goes behind," he said.

"All other files also start moving at a slow pace because people start becoming very, very conscious," he said. The Bofors deal too got mired in controversy despite the guns "being good", he noted.

At the same time, people have the right to ask questions about prices of the aircraft as tax payers'' money is at stake, the former air chief said.

"The fact is, because of creating a controversy out of it, the slowing down of defence modernisation later affects you," said BS Dhanoa, who retired in September last year.

"Like the prime minister made a statement. People are saying it is a political (statement) but the fact is that the statement he made is correct."

"If we had Rafale, the question would have been totally different," he said.

Endless guilt ....How many times we have to hear the same excuse again??
PAF would have shot down a Rafale instead of Mig21.

my 2 cents...

had he flown Rafele he would fled the scene like his Su-30 brothers...

Let me repeat what I said in another thread:

He is right.
On Feb 27, 2 Su-30s & 2 M2000s were outnumbered 6:1 by 4th gen jets (12 F 16 & 12 JF17) whereas they can take on odds of upto 2:1 against 4th gen jets (6-8:1 against 3rd gen).
But despite being outnumbered so badly, Su-30 & M2K still managed to exfiltrate safely with zero losses.

On the other hand, Rafales with Meteors can easily take on odds of 8:1 against 4th gen jets (12:1 against 3rd gen).

so you guys are good are running away from a fight......

so are mice.

you do realise this was BVR engagement... tell us how many BVR missiles a Su-30 carries V JF-17 and F-16...

had all those hunter pilots been flying rafale Paf would never have boasted about MM Alam.

Pre-27-Feb, the most safara-dors were willing to give it to PAF was F16 roughly equal to Mig-29 and that too pre SMT Upgrade, JF-17 was lesser than their Mig and Mirages deserved to be in the Museum ....when came the D-Day, PAF was literally shooting fish in a barrel, clubbing them like a baby seal .....and most of all ..... detoxed pdf totally of the Bhakhts ...there are now hardly any .... they are now as rare as hens teeth

The Hindu nationalists on this forum literally deserted the forum after February 27th. They took a good month to recoup before they started posting again and using now widely debunked conspiracy theories about the performance of the IAF. Ah! Great days!

and who forbade you to put up more su 30s and mirage 2000s against paf strike force? was that an exercise with limitations put on IAF ?the truth is that your air force was sleeping and your jets were in maintenance hangars as they have very poor availability at any given time.
and your last sentence is :omghaha:

if abhonondone, the hero, who is not allowed to face media really did shoot down an F-16 in a mig 21 then why indians need rafale? they already have too many mig 21s.

No, abhi none done should have been flying starship enterprise.

In Pakistan, we can only beat what is infront of us. Savy?

Overall Indian training or the lack there-of suggests a less than professionally competent military, similar to soviet client states in the Cold War. Tough on paper, but piss poor when it comes to execution from the strategic, operational, and tactical levels. There may be pockets of excellence, but the dedication to the highest professional standards is seemingly half-hearted.

Only clear simple battle plans have a hope of succeeding in this environment, such as Egypt’s retaking of the size canal in 1973. That alone took years of training, and when that overall war ultimately was only limitedly successful, Egypt had to still agree to a peace deal.

India maybe training for a limited objective across the LOC or International Border over these next couple of years to avenge their humiliation in Feb 2019, hence the need for Pakistan to build up its defenses despite the burden it puts on the nation’s economics.

Buying the Rafale is basically India admitting it needs someone to hold its hand and guide its troops, similar to how Indian sepoys performed under British officers. They are followers not leaders.

Air combat is not a GMAT exam. You entire math is stupid and based on hallucinations.

Block 50's and Block 40's of USAF are busting French Rafales in Redflag since 2010.

Such a useless post.
Rafales have a far better kill ratios against F-16s at all exercises.

As for 27th February, you have no bloody idea what your own Air force flew and what it didnt.
I know every minute detail

No wonder AOC WAC had to swallow a boot the next day. Poor threat assessment and mission planning on both 26th and 27th.
Anothe epic fail.
Their is not post called AOC WAC. There is only AOC-in-C not AOC.

Nonethless Air Marshal Hari Kumar birthdate is 25/2/1959 which means he was bound to retire on 28th Feb 2019 as all 3 star officers must retire on the last day of the month in which they turned 60.
