In World war only 1 lac 50,000 gurkhas took part... same amount of sikhs 8-9 lac hindus(rajputs mostly n other martial races) and 6-7 Lac Muslims frm what is today Pakistan..

From what i think gurkhas r over rated... they are short in height and thin in physical appearence.
First of all let me clear you one thing Gurkha's are hindu's......and secondly it doesn't matter wether they short or thin...the thing that matter is that wether they are capable enough to accomplish their job or not...and here nobody has any doubt about that...their record speak for them

Kuwait monarch seeks Nepali soldiers for security
Their valour and daredevilry have earned the Gurkha soldiers from Nepal lot of fans worldwide. And now the ruler of Kuwait-the oil rich west Asian nation wants them for his security.
Kuwait has requested the Nepal government for 200 serving Nepali soldiers who are to be employed in providing security to Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah-the ruling monarch.
The proposal has been forwarded by the Nepal embassy in Kuwait to the army headquarters through the foreign ministry. Reports say that the defence ministry has responded positively tothe request.
The soldiers would have to be less than 35 years of age and served in the army for 12 to 15 years with specialized training on providing security toVVIPs.
"Kuwait has asked for some 150 to 200 incumbent soldiers as body guards. We are positive on that," the *Nagarik *daily quoted defence ministry spokesperson Sreedhar Prasad Pokhrel.
This is not the first time that services of Nepali soldiers have been sought by ruling families of oil-rich nations in Asia. There have been similar instances in the past as well.
Four years back 55 serving Nepali soldiers were given retirement and sent to United Arab Emirates to serve as guards at the palace of the country's ruler Sheikh Khalifa II bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

I don't know about others but what makes a Gurkha great is his discipline, courage and keeping a cool head at times of adversity. Because a Gurkha is a professional soldier not a religious fanatic he can take wise decisions based on rationality and not a decision based on becoming a shahid. A Gurkha will kill the oder guy and save himself rather than killing the oder guy and getting killed himself.

Other than that we naturally have this ability to survive in difficult terrains. In fact my grandfather who was in RPF used to tell me dat he never lost a sprint against his colleagues and they used to say "Arre yeh 5 foot ka Gorkha kaise itna tez bhaagta hai'

Gorkha regiment once came to my city for some games with other regiments such as signals cobra etc they out did almost evry one in shooting

Gurkhas are only good because they train in high altitudes, which increase their endurance. Seeing as how most taliban train and survive within mountains, I don't see a huge difference.

Disclaimer:Fanboys may disagree.

ok imagine worlds 46 high tech most ruthless(i think US marines ) soldiers fighting for more than 10 years against an enemy which they still cant put to submission....oh.. and that enemy does not even have kukris :>now lets place your gurkhas to fight such an army for 10 years and you will see how long or i would say days they last...As far as i have heard, in war, its the determination and the sprit to fight and tats inborn/in-blood rather than planted or grown..

1 incident does not classify a victory its the end result as a whole..

Gurkhas have fought worse than what the talibunnies are more than 5 centuries back. Bet you didn't know what happened to the 'gazis' who tried playing the game with us didn't they? I am sure they won't have taught you that. You seriously don't know our Gurkha variety to talk like this.

NATO is pretty humane compared to what my Gurkha compatriots can do sonny.

you guys are comparing a conventional fighting force with guerilla fighters, which is never a fair comparison.
Guerilla fighters in and around the world have caused harm to best of the armies.. same goes to taliban as well.. if they really are the kinda fighters you guys think they are, they wouldn't have ran away from a conventional war & hide in caves, only to come back & fight in an unconventional way!!
