Amman, Apr 30 (Petra) – Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour welcomed his visiting Yemeni counterpart, Mohammed Salem Basendwa, on Tuesday and stressed the importance of further cementing ties between Jordan and Yemen.

Ensour commended the current level of relations and said Jordan is interested in closer ties, particularly in the construction and training fields, along with cooperation in higher education and medical tourism sectors.

Jordan, he said, is also concerned about Yemen's security and stability and hopes the Gulf Arab country "would bypass the circumstances it is currently passing through." Ensour briefed Basendwa, who is on a private visit to the Kingdom, on Jordan's reform process, noting that the country had, throughout its history, received wave after wave of Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees.

He also alluded to the "important and successful" visit by His Majesty King Abdullah to the United States last week and his talks with President Barack Obama, their second encounter in 40 days.

The Yemeni premier praised "the renaissance and progress Jordan had witnessed in all walks of life" despite limited resources, thanking the Kingdom for its role in the restructuring of the Yemeni armed forces after the revolution. He described the Jordanian army as being "organised, disciplined and professional." Basendwa said he is interested in benefiting from Jordan's reform expertise which, he said, is on the right track, and increasing cooperation in medical tourism and investment, emphasising a more robust role to be played by the joint Jordanian-Yemeni Higher Committee.
