Gujarat Has Created Most Manufacturing Jobs

IT sector is the one sector which gave high GDP growth rate to India. India economy is 1.7 Trillion and IT services alone is generating more than 100 Billion a year with minimum investment.

Be it Manufacturing, IT they both depend on Global economy and fluctuate. Chinese also faced the slump in 2008.

IT is not generating 100 billion but its worth of 100 billion.

We have a huge gap in society. The one has job and other nothing with no education and only manufacturing can give them an opportunity not to rely on food bills to live.

IT can be term as luxury where manufacturing is must for a country of 1.2 billion to develop. Agriculture will fall short to even sustain the population then to help us grow.

Selective journalism only highlighting certain parts of Gujarat in which this state is doing well and largely ignoring other aspects. And then there are Modi worshipers who will carry on this propaganda.

Gujarat is just one state in India which ranks in top 5.

Irrelevant. What is reported is this:

According to the report, Gujarat tops the list with an average employment of a little more than 350 per 1,000 people employed in manufacturing. This is between financial year 2004-05 and financial year 2011-2012 (April-May). In other words, states with flexible labour laws have reported higher increase in total factor productivity. Moreover, the younger set of workers prefers flexible job markets. This allows them to change jobs even if it means there is the likelihood of them being fired. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the new government will view this report and whether finally we will see some action in terms of reforming India's labour laws.

A serious issue hampering the growth and investments.

I am not comparing IT and Manufacturing, But I am pointing the fact about "Selective Journalism".

How about a title "Gujarat lags in IT sector and leads in Manufacturing"??

This post of yours has nothing to do with topic.
Selective journalism only highlighting certain parts of Gujarat in which this state is doing well and largely ignoring other aspects. And then there are Modi worshipers who will carry on this propaganda.

First you try to compare IT with manufacturing - two sectors affecting/employing entirely different segments of the society, completely ignoring manufacturing is the need of the hour. Than you claim it to be selective journalism and propaganda, again ignoring the impact of flexible labour laws, a need to step away from the socialist mindset that has plagued the economy for decades.

How about "Karnataka leads in IT but lag in armymen also in fishing"? Whats your point?

Gujrat is doing just ok in IT and its putting more weight on commodities which are more helpful to "masses". Shore based transport, business and manufacturing is what their key areas are and article is just talking about manufacturing alone.

1. Dollar for dollar, manufacturing employs more people per dollar.
2. Manufacturing has a greater trickle down effect in the form of ancillary industries than IT
3. Manufacturing also has a greater inducement towards Govt creating physical infrastructure.

That is why generating manufacturing jobs is the most important thing today. This is not to say that IT is not important, just that in our current economic status, we need more manufacturing jobs.

Karnataka is a failed state, stop gloating about it @Srinivas :D

You have to see Karnataka and Bangalore to say those words ...... Karnataka is politically unstable state but a good state.

I think you do not know what failed state is. Karnataka state is self sufficient.

Karnataka government has failed on all fronts, alleges BJP - The Hindu

I think you are referring this BJP propaganda ... :)

You still not catching my point.

Regarding your post. IT may employ less but a software engg. will create 5 to 8 jobs in the cities.

Stating a fact is no propaganda. No bad in highlighting what you are doing good if its true.

I am the hardest criticizer of over the board praise of anyone: Modi or Kejriwal and I support both.

My point is manufacturing is more important to country than IT which is already saturated. We need a field which can provide mass job to uneducated/non-skilled huge class of India and that is manufacturing. Gujrat is doing right here.

Haha, IT is already saturated with major players having a bench in lines of 20-30%.

@Srinivas I was just teasing you

I know .... reason why I have not used any smileys....to do a reverse ...

IT is not saturated, IT industry is doing fine even when the west is in slump, Now West is regaining its momentum. Plus there are new markets emerging.

In Manufacturing Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are doing well. I have not seen these states chest thumping ....

No 1 thump their chest, not 2nd and so on.

And regarding IT saturation, whom are you talking?

Because Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu had a well established base, long before independence. Mumbai and Chennai, major cities, ports economic centre, administration centre. A relatively more aware population - both Maharashtrian and south Indians have more affinity towards education.

The OP states that flexible labour laws have increased the jobs in manufacturing, a need for the entire country.
