ISRO's cryogenic capabilities
27 Aug, 2015
The GSLV rocket, with a cryogenic engine, slung the satellite in a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) from where it would be taken up to its final geostationary orbit.

Launch pad
27 Aug, 2015
GSLV-D6 carrying the 2117 kg GSAT-6 lifted off at 4.52 pm from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and placed the satellite in orbit, after about 17 minutes.

GSAT-6: 25th geostationary communication satellite
27 Aug, 2015
GSAT-6 is the 25th geostationary communication satellite built by ISRO and the 12th in the GSAT series.

Advanced features
27 Aug, 2015
ISRO said one of the advanced features of the communication satellite is its S-Band Unfurlable Antenna of six metre diameter, which is the largest satellite antenna realised by it.

The antenna is utilised for five spot beams over the Indian mainland and they exploit the frequency reuse scheme to increase frequency spectrum utilisation efficiency.

Control
27 Aug, 2015
After the injection of the satellite in the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit by GSLV-D6, ISRO's Master Control Facility has taken control of GSAT-6.

Function
27 Aug, 2015
It would perform the initial orbit raising manoeuvres by repeatedly firing the Liquid Apogee Motor on-board the satellite before finally placing it in the circular Geostationary Orbit.

The deployment of antenna and three axis stabilisation of the satellite would also be performed in the days to come.

Mission life
27 Aug, 2015
The mission life of the satellite is nine years.

. . .
congratulations from germany!
im impressed with indias progress regarding space tech/exploroation.
we need the competition.
hope to see the start of their manned space program in maybe the next 5 years.
5 years is a realistic time frame.

. . . .
>> GSLV-D6's Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS) was 70 kg lighter than GSLV-D5 thus facilitating more payload capacity.

>> GSAT-6 houses a 70 V bus, flying first time in an Indian communication satellite.

>> One of the advanced hardware of the GSAT-6 satellite is its 20 ft. long S-Band Antenna unfurlable antennae, the largest antenna ever built by ISRO and only a handful of agencies ever built the same - it will be deployed on August 30 after critical orbit raising maneuvers.

I'm on da way!!!!!

This is huge, GSLV Mark 2 and it's cryo engine are becoming validated. Where are all those troll idiots that usually swamp these threads when India fails? No where to be seen.

CYRO engines???????? What the heck is that??
Its old, very old technology, actually its ancient.

Ask @Superboy and @Luca1, Our neighbors, whats the point of having ROCKETS n SATELLITES without DSI???:omghaha::omghaha:
