KARACHI: Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to arrive in Karachi today to perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Karachi- Hyderabad motorway. Officials in the information department said the PM will arrive at 1:30pm and will go directly to Super Highway near DHA City to perform the groundbreaking of the 136-kilometre-long, four-lane highway, which will be in addition to its existing two lanes. Officials failed to confirm whether or not the PM will hold a law and order meeting. “The PM will return to Islamabad after the [highway] event,” said an officer.

Why does a road need a ceremony? This isn't 1852, its just a friggin road.

I know its useless but PM does not have anything else to do anyway. Lahore-Karachi motorway is old dream. In fact in 3 years Gwader, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar will be connected with motorways network.

At a time we need more dams we are making more roads. I hope they are useful next time floods reach Multan and river banks have to be blown up by the army to save cities. More roads let us just forget priorities.

It's a major new highway.
even if it is a highway sir it does not merit the expenses involved in a cash strapped country such as ours. First of all we need to change our priorities and secondly the money spent on the trip to inaugurate the Highway could be better spent elsewhere. In our current financial situation it is best to just work without any fan fare and rather then inaugurate the project at the opening there should be a proper ceremony when it finishes if a ceremony is really necessary

If Pakistan is cash-strapped then maybe public should pay taxes, yes country needs highways and improved infrastructure for commerce and travel. Problem is not building infrastructure, problem is people need to pay their taxes.

And sir with that argument I would ask the current government to add agriculture into the tax mix. The common man can not go and bring reforms it is the government which has to do that. And the government has more priorities to look into such as a near 10 percent loss of gas in pipelines while it is importing LNG or the water shortages we will face soon if there is no movement in increasing our water storage. There are priorities and the first one always must be supply of water, gas and electricity. New roads are after that and can not be prioritized before.

This moron is obsessed with highways. I wonder if his forgathers used to drive trucks on the highways or what. Highways are needed but hospitals and schools are also needed. What a moron.
Hahaha sir ji itna ghusa :o::rofl:

Yes but it must start from the top or should it not? How much tax Ishaq Dar the moron paid? If the finance chief is not paying taxes, how on earth you are expecting others to pay?

This link should be what we really debate about when taxes are mentioned. A country which has an agricultural earning has no agricultural tax even though there are so many well off agriculturalists. What my honourable supporters of different political parties do not think is why there is no taxes and so many subsidies on those who manage to live of the land and also sit in our assemblies while they have no real qualification to do so.

That is an issue of rule of law. Pakistan needs an agency like the IRS.
