Saleh, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi-American millionaire, was found decapitated at his apartment located at Lower East Side in New York. The parts of his dismembered body were found stuffed in plastic bags, with a power saw placed next to them.

Saleh was a venture capitalist who co-founded tech company Pathao. He was also the CEO of Nigeria-based motorbike startup Gokada.

The grisly crime came to the light after Saleh's sister arrived at his apartment to check on him. Upon discovering the dismembered body stuffed in plastic bags, she called the police. In its report, the New York Post stated that the police reached Saleh's luxury apartment at 3.30 pm.

The CCTV footage accessed by the police revealed that Saleh was seen entering the building's elevator at around 1.40 pm. The footage also revealed the suspected killer, wearing gloves, hat and a face mask, waiting to enter the elevator with the victim. The suspect was seen carrying a bag.

The report further stated that before entering the elevator together, Saleh gave the suspect a puzzled look. As soon as Saleh stepped out of the elevator after it reached his seventh-floor apartment, the suspect attacked him and made Saleh fall on the floor.

Saleh a Victim of Targeted Crime?

Suspecting the crime to be a targeted murder, sources told the outlet that the suspect appeared to be very professional. The cops found that the victim's legs were amputated below the knees and his arms had been removed, with the missing body parts placed into bags.

'We have a torso, a head that's been removed, arms, and legs. Everything is still on the scene. We don't have a motive,' NYPD spokesman Sgt. Carlos Nieves said.

The police sources further told the outlet that they were investigating whether the killer was interrupted with the arrival of Saleh's sister and managed to escape through another exit. There was very little blood found at the crime scene and it appeared that the killer had made an effort to clear out the evidence. Also, nothing was stolen from the apartment, revealed the source.

Hailing from a Bengali family, Saleh purchased his luxury apartment for $2.25 million last year. He co-founded 'Pathao', a transport network company dealing in food and courier deliveries in Bangladesh, in 2015. In 2017, the millionaire co-founded 'Gokada', an on-demand, motorbike-hailing company in Lagos, Nigeria, and became its CEO in April 2019. In 2018, he launched venture capital firm Adventure Capital in New York.

The tech bro found sliced into pieces in his $2.25 million Lower East Side condo made a name for himself by creating a prank phone call app that led to the downfall of a Hudson County, N.J. jail honcho.

Fahim Saleh’s app, PrankDial, allowed a user to set up a call between two other people and then secretly listen in.

Kirk Eady, the former deputy director of Hudson County Correctional Facility, was sentenced to 21 months in prison in Sept. 2015 for “illegally wiretapping” employees critical of his job performance. Eady has an ongoing lawsuit against Saleh and others for misleading him about the legality of the app, which he used to secretly monitor his critics.

Saleh, found dismembered in his apartment alongside an electric saw, had recently started a ride-hailing motorcycle app, Gokada, in Lagos, Nigeria.


Saleh wrote in a 2018 Medium post that PrankDial began as a passion project inspired by his love of prank calls when he was young.

PrankDial relied on users not to make calls to 11 states where the app’s service was illegal. The app was an instant hit and generated up to $2 million annually, he wrote.

“Over its lifetime, PrankDial.com has generated more than $10 million,” Saleh wrote. “No joke.”

The app was no laughing matter for Eady. The former jail official used PrankDial’s “evil operator” function to monitor communications between Hudson County jail union officials and the operator of a website critical of jail management.

“Eady used Evil Operator to initiate calls between them and secretly record the resulting conversations. Eady then retaliated against the union members by changing their work schedules, placing anonymous calls to their spouses accusing them of infidelity, and registering one of them as a member of the Ku Klux Klan,” judges at the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals wrote in 2016, affirming Eady’s conviction.

Eady sued Saleh and other corporate defendants last year, claiming PrankDial misled him about its legality. The suit noted that Eady lost his job and pension. He sought damages no less than $10 million.

Efforts to reach Eady were unsuccessful. A call to his attorney was not returned. A call to the chief operating officer of PrankDial was not returned.

A cold-blooded killer, clad in a ninja-style mask and a fancy suit and tie*, left his victim’s dismembered corpse inside a $2 million Lower East Side condo just moments before the victim’s sister arrived at the crime scene, a police source indicated Wednesday.

The suspect bolted via a staircase as the sister rode the elevator upstairs to visit victim Fahim Saleh, with her impending arrival interrupting the killer’s efforts to scrub the bloody condo clean and dispose of the body, the source said. The killer left behind the electric saw used to decapitate the 33-year-old victim and lop off Saleh’s arms and legs, and the source said cleaning materials were also found inside the seventh-floor residence.

“He was dressed like a ninja, full out, so you can’t even see his face,” the source said. “He clearly knew what he was doing. We think his intent was to get rid of the body parts and go back and clean it up and make it look like nothing happened. He left before he finished the job.”

The killer was alerted by the sister’s buzzing from the E. Houston St. lobby, where she was admitted by the virtual doorman, according to the source. The sister called 911 after stumbling upon the gruesome scene, with her millionaire tech entrepreneur brother’s limbless and headless torso inside, police said.


The worried sister went to the apartment because she hadn’t seen her brother in a day, and arrived only to find his butchered body, cops said.

The assassin stabbed him repeatedly in the chest to kill him, according to his autopsy results. He used a stun gun to incapacitate Saleh before murdering him, police sources said.

Local residents were still rattled Wednesday over the horrifying death inside the pricey condo as police continued their hunt for the killer.

“Everyone in the neighborhood (Tuesday) was in shock,” said a worker at a nearby building. “Our residents feel a little uncomfortable and uneasy.”

An elevator surveillance camera apparently captured the victim’s last moments of life, sources said. It shows the victim getting into the elevator Monday, followed quickly by a second man, dressed in a suit, wearing gloves and a hat, with a mask over his face.

Saleh, who bought the condo for $2.25 milion last year, was the CEO of Gokada, a motorcycle-sharing company in Lagos, Nigeria.

NYPD has said the person of interest worked for Fahim and their business deal apparently went bad

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has made development on cracking the murder and dismemberment of Pathao co-founder and tech CEO Fahim Saleh in his Lower East Side apartment, narrowing in on a “person of interest.”

A person responsible for the gruesome murder had been identified but he was not yet in police custody, multiple NYPD sources said on Thursday, reports The New York Post.

Police said the person of interest worked for Fahim their business deal apparently went bad, according to ABC7.

Fahim, 33, was last seen on surveillance video in the elevator of his luxurious East Houston Street building around 1:40pm on Monday. While he was riding up to his $2.2 million apartment, a man wearing a “ninja-like” hood who had followed him into the lift beside him, the Post report added.

After the doors of the elevator opened directly into Fahim’s seventh-floor apartment, the man followed him inside and tassed with a taser showed in the last image captured by the surveillance camera.

Fahim was repeatedly and fatally stabbed in his neck and torso, at some point over the next 26 hours, according to the city Medical Examiner’s Office report on Thursday.

But before the murderer could scrub the condo clean and dispose of the body, Saleh’s sister buzzed into the building through a virtual doorman, prompting the killer to run down the stairs, a source told Daily News.

The horrified sister was in tears as she called 911 when she found her brother’s bloodied remains.

The motive behind Fahim’s murder appeared to be financial in nature, a senior NYPD official told NBC2 on Wednesday.

Only arrest of killer will bring peace

Meanwhile, Fahim’s family said nothing will bring them peace until his killer is arrested. His family said they still “cannot fathom his gruesome death,” in a statement to the Daily News.

“There are no words or actions to provide any of us comfort except the capture of the person who exhibited nothing short of evil upon our loved one,” the family said.

His family urged police to “work diligently to get to the bottom of his horrific crime.”

“Fahim is more than what you are reading. He is so much more. His brilliant and innovative mind took everyone who was a part of his world on a journey and he made sure never to leave anyone behind,” the family said.

He was the co-founder of Gokada, a motorcycle ride-sharing service based in Nigeria.

“Fahim found success at an early age and built on it year after year, while remaining grounded and committed to helping others. No matter what he did, he did it while thinking of the greater good and his family. His parents and his sisters were his light and he was theirs,” they said.

The personal assistant of a young tech entrepreneur who was found decapitated and dismembered in his Manhattan apartment this week was arrested early on Friday and is expected to be charged in the grisly killing, according to two officials briefed on the matter.

The entrepreneur, Fahim Saleh, 33, was discovered dead on Tuesday afternoon by his sister inside his $2.25 million condo in a luxury building on the Lower East Side, the police said. She had gone to check in on him after not hearing from him for about a day.

She found a gruesome scene: Mr. Saleh’s head and limbs had been removed, and parts of his body had been placed in large plastic bags. An electric saw was still plugged in nearby.


The personal assistant, Tyrese Devon Haspil, 21, was expected to be charged in a criminal complaint with second degree murder and other crimes.

Detectives believe that the motive for the killing stemmed from Mr. Saleh having discovered that the assistant had stolen tens of thousands of dollars from him, despite the fact that Mr. Saleh had not reported the man and had set up what amounted to a repayment plan for him to return the money, one of the officials said.

The police were expected to announce the arrest at a news conference later Friday.

Investigators have also concluded that Mr. Saleh was killed on Monday, the day before his body was found, and that the killer returned the next day to Mr. Saleh’s apartment on East Houston Street to dismember the body and clean up the crime scene.

Detectives believe that the killer, dressed in a black three-piece suit, white shirt and tie, wearing a black mask and carrying a duffle bag, followed Mr. Saleh off an elevator in his building and into his apartment, a law enforcement official said. He used a Taser to immobilize Mr. Saleh and then stabbed him to death.

Security video taken from inside the elevator shows the killer later using a battery-operated portable vacuum cleaner in an apparent effort to remove any traces of his presence, the official said.

New York City’s medical examiner announced on Thursday that Mr. Saleh had died from multiple stab wounds to his neck and torso. Initially, a law enforcement official had described the killing as a “hit” and said it looked “like a professional job.”

Detectives investigating the murder believe the killer’s work dismembering the body was interrupted when Mr. Saleh’s sister buzzed from the building’s lobby, another official said, prompting him to flee through the apartment’s back door and into a stairwell before the sister arrived.

Mr. Saleh’s family said in a statement on Wednesday that the gruesome killing was so shocking it was unfathomable.

“Fahim is more than what you are reading,” the family said. “He is so much more. His brilliant and innovative mind took everyone who was a part of his world on a journey and he made sure never to leave anyone behind.”


Mr. Saleh was born in Saudi Arabia to Bangladeshi parents who eventually settled near Poughkeepsie, N.Y., a small city on the Hudson River.

After graduating from Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., in 2009, he built an app called PrankDial that allowed users to send prerecorded prank calls. Mr. Saleh said he eventually built PrankDial into a $10 million business.

Mr. Saleh went on to found Pathao, a motorcycle ride-sharing start-up in Bangladesh. He left that company in 2018 to begin a similar venture in Nigeria, an app known as Gokada.

At the time of his death, Mr. Saleh was the chief executive of Gokada and oversaw a shift in its business during a turbulent time. In February, Nigerian officials began enforcing a ban on motorcycle taxis in major commercial and residential parts of the country’s largest city, Lagos.


Gokada was forced to halt its ride-hailing business and laid workers off, but Mr. Saleh pivoted the company to focus on food and parcel delivery and business logistics.

“Fahim’s passion for Nigeria and its youth was immeasurable,” Gokada said in a statement. “He believed young Nigerians were extremely bright and talented individuals who would flourish if just given the right opportunity.”

Mr. Saleh was also the founding partner in a Manhattan-based venture capital fund, Adventure Capital, that invested in similar transit start-ups in Colombia and Bangladesh.
