Suspected militants caused an explosion outside the house of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Abdul Majeed Padder in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion took place outside the residence of the PDP MLA in Kulgam’s Noorabad constituency on Sunday evening. “There was no loss of live or damage reported in the explosion,” said the police.

The police said they were ascertaining the cause of the explosion. “We are collecting details to verify if it was a grenade attack or something else.”

Meanwhile, reinforcements were rushed to the area to search the vicinity for any armed militants.

However, no one could be immediately spotted or detained.

One policeman was injured on Thursday when militants fired upon the personal security officers (PSOs) guarding a leader on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Preliminary reports suggest the leader, Mohammad Anwar Khan, and his two PSOs were fired upon by the militants at Balhama in Khanmoh. “One policeman was injured in the attack,” said a police official.

Initial reports suggest there was an exchange of fire as the militants tried to snatch the weapon from the injured policeman. “The bid has been foiled,” said the official.

The area has been cordoned off by security forces.
