Athens and Riyadh have reportedly agreed on the deployment of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles of the Hellenic Air Force in Saudi Arabia.

Technical details relating to the transportation of the missiles, their deployment, cost and operational responsibility remain to be ironed out for the agreement’s conclusion.

According to sources, the deal follows the agreement of the foreign ministries of Greece and Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago to boost the latter’s air defense in light of the recent strikes against the facilities of the state-owned Aramco oil company.

It is also seen as a result of Washington’s pressure on Athens for a Greek presence in the Persian Gulf. Greece had twice responded negatively to previous American requests to send a frigate to join a naval force in the region under US leadership.

Greek authorities note that the agreement between Athens and Riyadh predates the crisis between Washington and Tehran over the assassination of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani by the US military.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu signaled in a speech outlining Turkey’s foreign policy on Wednesday that Ankara is ready to sign a memorandum on sea borders with Athens similar to the one it has signed with the Tripoli-based government in Libya.

He set as a condition that Turkey not be excluded from the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, hinting at the EastMed pipeline agreement signed between Greece, Israel and Cyprus.

His remarks were seen in Athens as an effort to defuse recent tensions in the region.

At the same time, the Times of Israel said that the counterintelligence unit of the country’s armed forces has included Turkey for the first time in a list of countries considered as a threat to the security of Israel.

Israeli services did not refer to a specific threat from Turkey, but to the policies of its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling AKP’s close relations with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The reports came on the heels of extensive media coverage in Turkey about a possible strengthening of Turkish-Israeli relations should Benjamin Netanyahu lose the March elections.

. . . .
The way this is played out in the media here is that this is essentially a request from the US. My understanding is that the the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces are somewhat open to the idea (this is not the first time this has come up as a request btw), but on the diplomatic spectrum the whole endeavor is a little itchy, for a number of reasons.

. .
Why not put a contract out and put it in the news papers save our arses so every country can bid. Instead of fighting for their own country and using their own equipment and own people depend on westerners. what a joke.
So is Saudis are saying patriots supplied by US to them are inferior to Greeks.

.
Pathetic fake news already dismissed.

they have a lot of their "own things", but owning them, and competency in using them are two different things..

Has worked very well 99,9% of the time since March 2015. However KSA is the size of half of Europe with very challenging terrain. Nor is a 100% record possible for any country.

I mean.. it still shouldn't be a factor in terms of area defense if you deploy them around strategic assets like Oil refineries(again not deploying them around refineries is a matter of incompetency). Overall its quite comical watching the Saudis still failing miserably to dispatch of the houthis, despite all that Western bought military equipment and air superiority. People joke that if it wasnt for the US intervention, Saddam's army probably would have marched all the way riyadh, seeing the saudis in battle, I'm starting to feel that may not have been a joke. Maybe relying on nepotism, and trying to pay the pakistanis to come save them or whatever mercenaries they can buy to do their dirty work, isn't the best idea.

Greece and Saudi Arabia sending a message to Turkey.

that makes no sense. lol What does deploying Patriot missiles to Saudi have to do with Turkey? they arent anywhere near saudi and aren't launching missiles or airstrikes. Those missiles are most likely meant as a deterrent to Iran.

I guess 9/11 and being stuck in Afghanistan for 20 years with the Taliban having gained ground is the epitome of professionalism my false flagger troll.

KSA is in control of 90% of Yemen, a country the size of Syria and Iraq put together and with heavily mountanious terrain while fighting against the most heavily armed terrorist group in the world and portions of the Yemeni military while losing less than 500 soldiers in the process. Controlling all the main ports, gas and oil. That is called winning.

If we used “your” (even though you are a false-flagger) approach as in Fallujah or Mosul there would be nothing left of Northern Yemen but your pea-sized brain does not understand that we will always neighbour Yemen and that our war is not against the Yemeni people hence such behaviour being counterproductive.

Now stop wasting my time with utter nonsense in a troll thread based on nonsense “news”.

@Slav Defence Arabized anti-Arabs in action creating fake news about KSA. Kindly take a look at this thread and close it as the news is fake and ridicolous and is attracting desperate trolls. Thank you.

Turkey is encroaching Arab lands and is also involved in territorial disputes with Greece.

Im looking forward to Congress defunding the help we give to the saudis, but Trump being the clown he is, vetoed it. And there is absolutely no comparison in Yemen and afghanistan. Its an absolute shame we are involved in giving logistics support and intelligence help to the Saudis in their war in yemen. Im even more upset that he is deploying troops to protect them despite that saudi terrorist shooting up the US military academy. but don't worry, next election, all that changes, and you will be on your own. Maybe you can find a different daddy after Trump to protect you.

Also I assure you, there is no false flagging, check the IP address if you wish. Idk how else to prove it, but I don't really care to all that much.

Turkey is encroaching Arab lands

but what does that have to do with deploying missiles to saudi? Turkey isnt going anywhere Saudi, If I had to guess its most likely a favor to the US, b/c we requested more NATO involvement in the middle east.

I have zero interest in engaging with false flagger trolls. There are 7-8 genuine Americans of European ancestry on PDF or so and zero have a problem with KSA or the 500 million + Arabs, let alone the same obsession that you have with 2 of them even having lived in KSA and having nothing but praise for it. As have the American YouTubers visiting in recent months and receiving millions of views in the process.

US involvement in Yemen has been non-existent and sanction all you like, will just further help our booming domestic defense industry. Besides we have close and growing defense ties with China, Russia, Europe and several other partners from Brazil to Japan.

In any case KSA is far too important for the US for such policies to occur. Has been proven time and time again but dreaming is free. Keep hating and obsessing for all I care.

Indeed, Yemen is more challenging and the Houthis and allies are far more better equipped than the Taliban who do not even have tanks let alone ballistic missiles or access to the sea. A joke of a comparison.
