There had previously been some attempts to spy on Crete with drones, but the great panic of the Turkish air force resulted from the mass "locking", from the mass entrapment in the sights of the Greek fighters, eight Turkish F-16s, during their illegal overflights over the Aegean.

The event was shocking to the Turkish pilots because it had never happened to them at the same time, to such an extent, and they had no explanation. They therefore considered that it was a ground-based "lockdown", by ground-based air defense systems, and so they entered the process of blaming the now Greek S-300s, in order to cover their own recent supplies of Russian air defense systems and to soften the sharp reactions of the Americans.

But the truth is, as confirmed by reliable military sources, that the blocking of the Turkish fighters resulted from the advanced systems of the upgraded Greek warplanes. The shock for the Turkish pilots was great because they felt trapped en masse, in nightmarishly rattling cockpits, without reliable evasion and deception countermeasures. They knew that in the event of a real battle, they would have no escape route and all eight would fall!

This happened on August 23rd. So because it was unexpected and they didn't have the explanation, they invented the S-300, even raising a flag of opportunity. Which also fell when the recipients of the signal, that is, the Americans, categorically stated that the Greek S-300s are not related to those recently acquired, at another time and in very different circumstances, from Turkey.

However, they now know what can happen to them if they try anything. The possibility of deterrence was demonstrated in an indisputable way by the Greek Air Force. As for the Russian missile defense system installed here, the Armed Forces officers, whom we asked competently, explained to us without hesitation or reservation that the S-300 are not hidden, but are an integral part of the Greek ground air defense, together with a number of other ground anti-aircraft systems. With the difference that they do not fall under the current levels of readiness and also that until now there has been no need for their involvement with the Turkish air force, which regularly violates Greek airspace.
