An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operated by the European border agency Frontex recently crashed at sea, approximately 70 miles southeast of Crete. The Israeli-made Heron UAV was conducting a monitoring operation when ground control lost contact with the drone, and the cause for this communication loss remains unknown.

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, utilizes UAVs like the Heron for the surveillance of borders and maritime areas. Equipped with advanced sensors and cameras, these drones assist in safeguarding borders, detecting smuggling activities, and preventing illegal immigration.
