Well said sir,
This forum is about Pakistan and the Pakistan military. We will continue to support and salute our country and its brave men and women on the front lines. We will also applaud and support progressive and positive policies by whoever forms the government, and criticize when need be as well, as has been done during Musharraf's rule.
What we all want is a progressive Pakistan. Lets hope the graciousness of the PML-Q in accepting defeat becomes the norm rather than the "Sarkon pay aa jayen gay agar election may hum na jeetay" mentality.
I am hopeful that democracy this time around might work better, since we now have a powerful and vocal media and regardless of whether the previous judiciary returns, there will be a judiciary not beholden to the people in power.

I think our media has matured (especially electronic), and our people addicted to it, to the point that it will be extremely hard for any sustained "blackout" or censorship to work. Correct me if I am wrong, but previously the government had a very handy tool in the form of print advertisement (GoP being the largest print advertiser) to force media houses to tow its line. Now the largest Media houses (jang - Geo TV, Dawn - Dawn TV) have their own TV channels that do not depend upon the GoP for revenue, and therefore have immunized themselves to some extent from coercion.
I also thin that the tussles between the media and the GoP are going to be beneficial, in that the media will realize that it can win, and the people of Pakistan will support it, in any confrontation to silence it. The same could be argued for the judiciary, having gone through a "trial by fire", that people will not support its marginalization (as happened in NS's last term), though I have my doubts about whether the "Lawyers Movement" will occur again, since so many of them are affiliated with one political party or another - though it did seem that they had become independent when they were threatening to withdraw support from the PPP and PML-N when it seemed the two would participate in elections, and the Lawyers wanted a boycott. They had to be convinced that participation was the correct strategy. So lets cross our fingers and hope.

But Agno i dont see any pf the lawyer gonna protest even if CJ and other judges was not reinstated as 99% of the lawyers have political affiliations mostly with those parties that have won majority hence the blackcoats would be much happy with some fringbenfits
rather then losing these for supporting the ex-judges.

whos this mosabja cat. if he knew anything about islam, the holy prophet s.a.w. is reported to have said, "we do not give authority to those who ask". so much for democracy.
mushsharaf parents dont live in the us as his dad died in 2000 odd in karachi.
if mossabaja had half a chance hed would sell himself to go to amreka like most so called malvis, unless he is already in denmark asking for al asylum.. it is dzangerous to wrap your self in the flag of deen and underestimate others imaan.

A government is a system and people have a role in it. It is the people who are corrupt like in most administrative services and customs and police.
You just cannot blame the Prime Minister for everything. Peace and stablity is more important than building a mansion somewhere.
I agree that all the corrupt officials both in Government and Army should be punished. But dont be lost in the world that mushraf is not corrupt. He is a military man and knows well how to hide things.
One more important thing to note is that PML-N and PPP are uniting. It is a good sign. I dont favour any individual party, but strongly belive in democracy- a govt by the people- for peace in the country.

^^ I don't think anybody has ever stated that Musharraf isn't corrupt or without faults. However, it takes a blind person not to see that he was far less corrupt and a whole lot more competent than Nawaz Sharif or Zardari.

Though there is huge difference between 15 percent average economical growth during Musharraf last 5 years of political rule (2002-2007) compared to BB and NS 4.1 percent average economical growth during 11 years of their corrupt rule, this difference becomes more shocking when population growth of country is taken into account (as population growth erode economical growth comparable to population growth, and in earlier years Pakistan population growth was very high, but today it is quite reasonable, still high).

LAHORE - President Supreme Court Bar Association and former PPP MNA Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has demanded of President Pervez Musharraf to resign as it was the only way left for him after the defeat of his supporter party, PML(Q) in the elections.
Talking to the media at his residence on Tuesday ,he said that the party for which President Musharraf was seeking support, has been routed in the elections therefore he must resign which was the only way out for him.
Aitzaz, who has been detained at his residence at Zaman Park, also called for the resignation of Ch Shujaat Hussain as President PML-Q on the grounds that what the country is facing today is a result of the policies his party has pursued in power.
He strongly supported restoration of the judges deposed on November 3 for making the judiciary independent.
In his view, the PPP govt after coming to power would restore the judiciary to its pre-November 3 position by reinstating the deposed judges of the superior courts.
He said that the matter about the restoration of the judiciary can be well settled in the Parliament as the judges were removed through an executive order which the Parliament can easily strike down.
Aitzaz said that lawyers community was committed for the restoration of the judges and had set a deadline of March 9 next for this purpose and if the needful was not done by that day, a rally will be held outside the Parliament House, Islamabad, the same day.
As to a question regarding a reported offer to him by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif to become the Prime Minister, he said he was moved by this gesture and was thankful to him. However, he said, he was member of the PPP and had enjoyed many offices in the past and by the grace of Allah, earned a lot of respect therefore, he was not aspirant for any other office.
Media was allowed to see Aitzaz who ,however, was not allowed to come out of the premises. First time the security persons appointed at his residence, did not so strictly stop the media persons from talking to Aitzaz.
AFP adds: He (Musharraf) is the most hated man in the country and he must resign. There is no other way, Aitzaz told AFP at his home in Lahore, where he has spent months under house arrest.
If he doesnt resign, he should be impeached, said Aitzaz, the President of Supreme Court Bar Association.
Aitzaz a key leader of lawyers protests which rocked Pakistan last year, said any new government must reinstate 63 judges sacked by Musharraf under emergency rule last year, or face the consequences.
If they are not reinstated by the ninth of March then we will march on Islamabad, he said, referring to lawyers and judges.
He said he was hopeful they would be reinstated - a key election pledge of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N.
All his horses have lost. He should realise that, said Aitzaz.

The lawyer said he expected he would be free to leave his house within 24 hours.

He said the ideal situation would be that office of the prime minister be given to the PPP, while in Sindh the party should form its government. In NWFP, the PPP and ANP should form the government while in Punjab the PML-N should form its governments with cooperation of likeminded parties. He said in Balochistan the situation was complicated due to split mandate but things would get settled with the passage of time.
To a question, he said the nomination of PM hopeful would be made by Central Executive Committee of the party but in his own opinion Amin Fahim was a suitable candidate in the prevailing condition. He was of the view that democratic institutions could be strengthened only when the deposed judges of superior courts were restored and allowed to work independently.
