This thread is for media 'reports' where Islam or a person's ethnicity is mentioned, usually in a negative context, for no apparent reason, i.e. it has no relation to the story.

Reported? For what? You refer to the 20th century as existing in the present sense. It ended 10 years ago. You need to sharpen your knowledge of the period we exist in before flying off the handle.

Are you so offended by mention of the word 'muslim'? I know lot of negative news about islam is on the news now. But i don't think this is one of them.

The more you get offended by these petty things, the more determined the offenders will become. So take it easy.

I have seen this too-any negative event in a Muslim country is implied as a result of Islam, and any negative event by a Muslim is reported with the perp's religion in bold italics, figuratively speaking.

While this is definitely a sign of Islamophobia, and worthy of condemnation, it may be worthwhile for Muslims to do some soul-searching.

I have, in the course of my life met, employed, worked with and befriended many Muslims and have invariably had a very good experience. The question arises-Why the demonizing?

My take is that the vast majority of sensible and reasonable Muslims let the small minority of Nutjobs (that all religions have) get away with maligning Islam. Talking about it on internet fora is not enough, this small group should (figuratively) be hunted down and dealt with. The voice of reasonable Muslims MUST be heard louder and their actions must bear fruit for this vilification to stop.

Agree but why do people assume we don't do that already. Can you seriously go back to 1990's UK and ask every black guy... Hey did you so some soul searching because most crimes committed in the UK were by black people?

Or do people still go and ask Germans, do you do soul searching because your military wiped off close to 10 million jews during the Holocaust.?

It's not a question of being offended, but documenting the fact that the Western media has an anti-Muslim agenda.

The fact that Medina is a Muslim holy city is completely irrelevant to the story. The news item slipped in that fact to make sure people know this crime was being committed in a Muslim country.
