What's new

Govt took $6.9b foreign loans in just 9 months - Good Governance of PML-N

The problem is rampant on either side of border ... I think we should form a union again .... on the lines of European union ... partition was a bad idea ... corruption and thievery is inherent to both sides' politicians!!! See, when people say India and Pakistan are different? This is one solid proof there is no difference:cheers:

Sir

I beg to differ. There are genuine efforts in India to reduce corruption and introduce reforms, while i am not seeing the same efforts in Pakistan. You can call Modi whatever you want, but you cannot call him corrupt. Can you say the same about Nawaz Sharif? Indian Civil Institutions are far more independent and competent compared to their Pakistani counterparts. Indian Judicial System and Election Commission are exemplary institutions, something we can only dream of having in Pakistan. India is certainly on the right path, we need a major overhaul in Pakistan to push us to the right path.

In my opinion, economic terrorism is the worst form of terrorism. You'e nor just ruining one life, you're ruining millions of lives. Public officials loot the national treasury and build their Assets overseas, but this money was supposed to pay for the social services of the poor. Corruption is the main ingredient of Economic Terrorism, and it affects not just one but millions of families. I find economic terrorism to be a bigger crime than violent terrorism. At least violent terrorism kills you right there and than, but economic terrorism kills you slowly.

I see that our arm chair economists are in full force today. Explain to me, how does one move money from a country's Forex into their own personal accounts?

Seriously? I thought there was the usual politician bashing on ..... anyways what I could make out trying to decipher what they were saying is that corruption in day to day running of government and external borrowings further putting the fiscal health into dire straits.

I do agree, even borrowings cant be shown in forex reserves for book balancing .... debt financing at its best?

Simple

You open a company, or better get a corrupt businessman on your side like Saif Ur Rehman and award him the contract at a jacked up price, while pocketing in the commissions he pays you. This is why the first project for CPEC worth $1.9 billion was awarded to Saif Ur Rehman without any bidding or the LNG Contract was also awarded to Saif Ur Rehman, same goes for Metro, Nandipur and Orange Train. These projects were the most expensive of their kinds, because there were massive corruption and kickbacks in them, that's why the final price was so high.

@notorious_eagle Been long since we interacted ... couple of years now?

Anyways, on a serious note, I think it is time we buried the Kashmir hatchet and absorb respectively held territories and move towards an economic confederation ..... long overdue and needed badly now.

Thanks

One problem I have noticed across the border is that Every Pakistani thinks Army as the only solution of all problems in there country, which can't be farther from the reality.
Army should stick to the job assigned to them ie national security and keep the civil machinery do their job. And make them accountable for everything they do

Whether we like it or not, this is the blatant truth. India too has a long way to go, but at least some sanity has prevailed over the past decade.

The salient difference between Pakistani and Indian leadership is that of loyalty and patriotism. Don't get me wrong. Nepotism and mass corruption is part and parcel of our DNA in the entire region. However, loyalty and patriotism exemplified by the leaders acts as a catalyst for change and unity among the peoples. It has an amazing trickle down effect despite shortcomings and challenges. Pakistani leaders lack loyalty and patriotism towards their nation and this is clearly demonstrated by the Panama leaks. It is an outrage that a leader and its family members are engaged in mass embezzlement. It also reveals where their loyalty lie.

That may work in India and elsewhere, but Pakistan is a different animal. You don't understand how things work here. We Pakistanis require a stick approach. A carrot doesn't help. Just compare the economic progress we have seen under military rule as opposed to the inept civilian rule. It speaks volume and the numbers don't lie. Democracy is a good system, but it only benefits the right sort of environment.

My dear you are hugely underestimating powers of Civilian institutions
They can even make army sweat if given adequate freedom
In India no one fears army (well except stone pelters in Valley) but every corrupt politicians fears judiciary

Like I said, I don't underestimate nor criticize civilian institutes. In fact, I'm a staunch supporter of democracy and civilian rule. However, I'm also a realist. Democracy can only show its fruits when all the vital ingredients are there. Pakistan doesn't have the right sort of climate yet for a proper functioning democracy.

IMF's Structural assistance is the biggest "loan" which can't be used other than external payment and is always repaid in full on maturity. Other than that. current Finance ministry has embarked on a unique program of foreign debt management- details classified for now.

You need to stop looking from your Indian prism. Pakistan is a different country with a different setting. Democracy isn't going to work over here until we have rid this country from certain people.

You need to stop assuming that Pakistan is different :enjoy:

Democracy isn't going to here and Pakistan is a different country. You cannot call an apple a banana.

. .
Why not, come to politics, change the "climate"

Changing the environment requires time. Initially, Pakistan requires autocratic rule. We need one man at the top who has supreme power and is able to restructure the mess. There is no other way whether we like it or not. I understand the Indian/American dislike for autocratic rule in Pakistan due to its hate relation with the Pak army, but ordinary Pakistanis usually support such an idea.
