ISLAMABAD: In a high-level meeting, presided over by President General Pervez Musharraf, a new strategy has been adopted that besides negotiating with Benazir Bhutto, dialogue would also be started with the Muttehadda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) as second option.

According to Arshad Waheed Chaudhry of Geo News, a high-level meeting was held in Rawalpindi. The meeting, chaired by President Musharraf, was attended by president PML (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, chief whip in National Assembly Nasrullah Dareshak, minister of state for information and broadcasting Tariq Azeem along with the chief ministers of all the four provinces.

During discussion and consultation on the political situation and the future strategy, the President said that he would not take off uniform for the time being and if Benazir Bhutto does not display any flexibility on the issues of 58 (2) B and uniform then he also would not show any flexibility on these issues.

Sources said that on this occasion, chief of the ruling PML (N) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain presenting a substitute plan said that besides negotiating with Benazir Bhutto, the MMA be also negotiated as second option, and for this, he asked to be allowed to meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman and open the dialogue with him.

According to the sources, an strategy was adopted after a detailed review of this proposal that a final message be sent to Benazir and if the dialogue with her fails then the help of MMA would be achieved and Chaudhry Shujaat would talk with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The official circles have kept this high-level meeting very secret and refused to confirm it.
