Suspends jail term for 6 months on condition

The government today decided to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for six months on humanitarian grounds and considering her age, Law Minister Anisul Huq said.

The government suspended her sentence as per section 401 of Criminal Code of Procedure, he told reporters at a press briefing at his Gulshan residence.

However, Khaleda, the former prime minister of the county, has to stay home in Dhaka and receive her treatment here, the minister said.

She would not be allowed to leave the country, he added.

Replying to a question, Anisul Huq said the home ministry will take decision about the timing of her release.

The BNP chief landed in jail after being sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special court on February 8, 2017.

On October 30, 2018, the HC enhanced her punishment to 10 years in the case after dismissing her appeal.

On October 29, 2018, Khaleda Zia was convicted in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment by another special court in her absence.

She is currently under treatment at BSMMU.

I don't think so. It's BNP leaders and Tareq Zia who didn't want parole of Khaleda Zia. As if Khaleda Zia is released, Tareq Zia will lost his power.

It could be mutual between Khaleda Zia and her family members ( other than her son Tareq Rahman) .

Selima rahman said that they appealed to govt with the permission of Khaleda Zia.

So it actually made Khaleda Zia politically weaker by destroying her uncompromising reputation.

Remember how hasina tackle modi? Same she also showed herself as very kind leader who can release her vicious opponent because she wanted it directly from govt.

good decision .

Its only good if Khaleda Zia never involve in politics again. It's too early to reach to conclusion.

What difference it will make. Instead of helping doctors with protective equipments doing this is just useless. She is half dead any way.

Army is running these key policies now. She has new understandings with the Army. BNP is going back to where it was born— cantonment. Tareq's political future is zero.

It depends on who run the key policy decisions just like now. Do you believe that Hasina alone managed to keep the political stability over the last 10 years ? Her first term in 1996-2001 was not politically stable. Many PDF members weren't even born then.

She will be free but will remain interned in her house for a term of six months. How can she start politics? I hope, she gets up at 5'00 am and prays her Fazr, eats breakfast by 7:00 am, eats lunch at 12;30 and meets her colleagues in between 2;00 to 5;00.

She used to wake up at 10;00 am, eat breakfast at 12;00 noon, go to PM office at 3;00 pm, leave at 6;00 pm and sit with her colleagues for a meeting at 9;00 pm that continued until 0:0 hour. This routine displeased her colleagues.

I hope, her jail and hospital have changed her style bringing her some discipline.

It's not about stability. It's about ruling. She created chaos from 2013 to 2015. But she did massacre in her 2001 - 2006 regime. Only people who suffered know how terrible it is if you have 15/16 hours loadshedding/power cut in a day in regular basis. Ruling class will not understand the pain of common people.

I hope, her jail and hospital have changed her style bringing some discipline.

I hope she may never return in politics. Let her live an elite life again in her house firoza. But don't let her start politics again. There are many people in bangladesh other than this old witch to do politics.
