Getting religion in our bloodstream By Ayesha Siddiqa

Her work as a civil servant does not mean that she has insight into what the ISI and Pak Army do, I read her work "Military Inc", and even attended a lecture on it, on which a panel of 6 Army officers pointed out 156 factual errors in the book within 60 minutes.

Sir, could you post one or two facts, just as examples, not because i dont trust you.

It was about 5 years ago, so some of the figures might be wrong.

1) She said that Army officer get free plots in prime locations, which is wrong. All Army officers have to pay for their plots according to the commercial value of the land at the time of it's auction. Secondly, these locations were bought in the 50s and 60s when these lands were nothing but jungles. The army developed and invested in this land so if they choose to sell it, why is it such a pain. Plus, Judges and Journalists among others actually get free plots on prime city locations, but no one cries foul.

2) She said that Pakistan is the only country in the world in which the military also operates commercial business ventures. Which is far from the truth. Many distinguished countries like USA, UK, Turkey among others also have MILBUS(military business) and it is a multi-million dollar industry. Infact, it is the largest single source of revenue for Pakistan at the stock Market, Fauji Foundation alone generates over US$661 Million per Annum(updated figures).

3) She says these ventures employ serving Army officers and thus takes their focus off of their professional responsibilities, which is infact a lie. Let's take the Fauji Foundation as an example. 70% of it's entire employment is civilian whereas the remaining 30% are retired Army officers and enlisted men.

Hope these will suffice.

Ah the old "Others do it too, and besides, it is our right, and we deserve it of course" defence is alive and well. :)

Personally, I have no problem with what you say, but the fact of the matter is that the nation can ill-afford these practices by not only the army, but the politicians as well, at least not for much longer, I think.

The Army needs some kind of media outlet to inform people, journalists are there to sell and making a story about Pakistan's only prized instution being corrupt will bring in the $ because those with no knowledge won't doubt it.

Then why does your flag have a white stripe on it?

Islam respects minorities, the white represents the minorities which are both part of Pakistan by law and religion (the latter meaning it's Islamically 'acceptable' to practise your religion freely).

why is usa so afraid of ISI, they always try to spread negative propaganda about ISI , but whatever we love ISI and Army and Islam.

Can you tune in to TV and see the Army shooting peaceful citizens or the police refusing to arrest protesters busy harming other Pakistanis?
What peaceful citizens...!!! Those Russian converts who came here ILLEGALLY to get weapon training or that thug who was robbing on streets threatening ppl's lives...!!! or those TTP suicidals who claimed to be fighting for islam BUT couldn't even read "Kalima" (declaration of faith) ...

@ Solomon

Come on dude ISI and PA suffered thousands of casualties in war on terror...please for Gods sake don't start it all again.

Ayesha Sadiqqa has been criticizing the military for a long time now...probably just to be famous and earn money.

But u have to admit...look at the freedom of speech....this lady has been criticizing the army for a long time..even wrote a book against PA. This is a gift to us by Musharraf...that today we have freedom of speech in our country unlike any Arab country.

That is a rightly pointed out impediment. But then again, this is responsibility of the Informatiotion Ministry to launch such Pro-Army campaigns. ISPR can merely deny or clarify issues but ongoing smear campaigns have to agressively riened in. Our Army has its shortcomings, but no one should be allowed to cast doubts on their credibily, integrity and commitment.

Further as MadDog added, our security established has made extraordinary sacrifices & further achieved astounding success in recent operations against terrorists. The institution is doing well in a tight spot, let them do their job.

Shove ur rhetoric of "Radical Islam" up urs & hers ... whatever doesn't suit u, u label it as "radical" & these journalists who receive "packets" from ur embassies harp the same tune...

Pakistan being an islamic country, ISI SHOULD indeed have strong islamic ideology, & support.

if i was in government i would put all these fake journalists in jails to serve life sentence who recieve pay checks to go anti pakistani and have no better things to write in ther lives that anybody would notice them other wise

no where in the world this happens, but pakistan esp pakistan liberal class are mir jaffars of present day, and they dont deserve any tolerance at all

i personally request the pak amedia to ban this express tribune, nothing comes out mature from this source, all are immature kids writing in their blogs seriously
