Police say they will take action against people spreading pictures of Banani rape victims on the social media.
The cyber crime unit of Detective Branch will investigate how the pictures were leaked on Facebook, DMP Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten told reporters on Saturday.
Several Facebook pages had revealed identities of the victims and published their pictures.

Anyone revealing identity of a victim can face a fine of Tk1 lakh and two years of imprisonment under The Women and Children Repression Act 2000.
The victims told the Dhaka Tribune on Friday that they would file a case under the ICT Act since their photos were stolen from their Facebook account and doctored to discredit them.

Two female university students were raped at The Raintree Hotel on March 28. They filed a case on May 6 with Banani police against Shafat Ahmed, Nayem Ashraf, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Police recorded the case after a 48-hour delay. The plaintiffs said their rapists had repeatedly threatened and pressured them to withdraw the case.
Shafat, son one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, and his friend Nayem raped the girls at gunpoint and recorded the incident on mobile phone.

DMP Joint Commissioner Baten on Saturday said the accused had confessed to their crimes.
Shafat and Shadman were arrested in Sylhet on 11 May. Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali were arrested on 15 May while Nayem was apprehended on May 17.

A few questions, concern and acceleration of sky falling off of BD by Hindutavya's rising at the helm:

He also put his fingers on his son's ex-wife for staging rape drama. Again, wasn't she a TV personality, like Rubel Hussein’s ex-lover or an alleged harassed one by Arafat Sunny? Commonality of allegations against all defendants was harassing of exploited woman in this case.

So, who are benefitting by abusing them? Wasn't it IND that overwhelmingly invested in BD's Media and intelligentsia that happened to defame patriots by constant paparazzi? As alternative power base of Hindutavya fukcs was already being established, time became ripe to snatch wealth like it was done from Bihari, 22 Paribars and cantonments right after the break up PAK in 71, IMO.

Banks were looted after taking over, median sector's investment was stolen by stock market's thievery to send thriving middle class to slum and to give birth of upper echelons dalal, IMO. And this capitalist Dalals ironically became the likes of the Hindu Jamidars of the past. So, scheme was essentially to take the country back in PRE-47 era and dalalers Bachhas had facilitated just that, IMHO.

No Raintree staff intervened even after hearing one of the girls pleading for help, says police source
Two young girls were raped at Banani’s now infamous Raintree hotel on March 28, the same night when two other university students were violated there, it has emerged.

Nayem Ashraf alias Halim, one of the Banani rape case accused, told investigators that the girls were taken to the hotel around the same time, according to a police source familiar with the matter.

Two university students filed a rape case on May 6 with Banani police against Shafat Ahmed, Nayem, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Police’s Detective Branch teams are collecting information about the other victims who have not lodged complaints against the rapists.

Officials, with knowledge of the investigation, said none of the Raintree hotel staff intervened even after hearing one of the girls pleading for help as the rapists were well acquainted with them.

The victim cried the whole night and begged Nayeem to spare her but in vain. Instead, the victims were threatened to keep silent about the ordeal.

The hotel authorities have repeatedly claimed that they were unaware of the rape incident.

A police officer, declining to be identified, told the Bangla Tribune that investigators had located the other two victims and were collecting information from them through various sources.

“They are mentally devastated and have isolated themselves fearing for their lives and dignity. But if necessary, we will question them at DB office,” the officer said, adding that female officers of police’s Victim Support Centre were handling the matter.

Plaintiffs of the Banani rape case said the rapists had repeatedly threatened and pressured them to withdraw the case.

Police said the accused had confessed to their crimes.

Identities and photos of the university students were revealed by several Facebook pages recently. After the plaintiffs decided to file a case over the matter, police said they would look into it.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said they were scrutinising information Nayeem had given during interrogation.

Investigators said rape accused Safat’s driver Billal had confessed before a Dhaka court on Sunday. He told the court about the rape incident, recording the ordeal on phone and threatening the victims.

Billal, however, denied recording the rape incident, claiming he taped the consumption of Yaba – a contraband but popular party drug.

He said he had overheard conversations and assumed that the victims were being coerced to keep silent and sometimes offered money for reaching an understanding with the rapists, investigators said.
