The German Ministry of Defense has accepted that German forces fired on the peaceful protestors in Takhar province that left hundreds of people killed and wounded. The shooting took place after protestors wanted to burn down the Provincial Reconstruction Team building leading by Germans in this province.

The protests broke out after a joint Afghan and NATO team carried out a night raid on a house believed to be a hideous for the members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and killed four Afghans including two young women on Tuesday May 17.

NATO officials in Kabul said their forces targeted a senior member of IMU in this house and killed four people including two women who were armed and wanted to attack the forces.

NATO says after the raid troops detained several suspected members of IMU and seized a large number of weapons and explosives.

However, police officials in Takhar province are refusing the NATO allegations and saying that NATO forces killed four Afghan civilians including two young women.

Afghan officials said the dead Afghans are all civilians and they had no military or politically ties with any groups in the region.

Hours after the incident, thousands of angry protestors took out to the streets of Talqon city the centre of Takhar province in northern Afghanistan and protested against the NATO forces. Protestors burned the images of Afghan President Hamid Karzai and demanded justices.

The protest turned to violence when the protestors believed to be armed with small arms, wanted to storm the PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) building running by German forces in this province, but German troops fired on protestors, killing and wounding a large number of the protestors.

Officials in Takhar confirmed that at least 12 protestors were killed and around 100 more protestors were wounded in the deadly protest.

The protest continued on Thursday and protestors attacked the Takhar police compound where they burned the building, police vehicles and motorbikes.

The police officials of Takhar province blamed the Taliban rebels to be behind the protests in Takhar province.

This is not the first time that Germans massacred the Afghan civilians.

Two years ago, Germans instructed the US forces to carry out a deadly attack on two hijacked fuel tankers in northern Kunduz province resulted in dead of 150 Afghan civilians.

Civilian casualties remains a hot topic in Afghanistan and despite the efforts made by Human rights organizations and international community, both Taliban and the NATO forces are continuing to kill the Afghan civilians.

New rules of engagement: any protester that runs is a Taliban...any protester that stands still is a well-disciplined Taliban.

. . .
IMU or IMT as it is sometimes called is a certified terrorist organisation. It is closely associated with Taliban and Al Qaeda. The were decimated while fighting along side the Taliban against Ahmed Shah Mahsood. The remnants holed out in FATA. There was news of some leaders being killed in US drone attacks a while ago. They have been causing mayhem in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kirghizstan for decades now but have been active lately in Afghanistan. The Germans have every right to exterminate them.
