While Syria is torn apart by the warring of U.S. imperialists and fundamentalists—leaving its children to die of starvation—another country plans to take advantage of the chaos by stealing resources from Syria’s southern region. The theft will be carried out by the most notorious pushers of military hegemony, and they don’t care that it violates international law.

Genie Energy is an American-based oil and gas company with major investors and advisors comprising a who’s who list of war profiteers—Dick Cheney, Rupert Murdoch, Lord Jacob Rothschild, and James Woolsey. The president of their Israeli subsidiary is Efraim “Effi” Eitam, an Israeli military commander who called for expelling the “cancer” of Arabs from Israel.

Together, these warmongers and would-be ethnic cleansers will soon be drilling into a vast oil and gas reserve located in the Syrian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, known as Golan Heights. The move would be in clear violation of international law, specifically the Annex to the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Israeli authorities granted Genie Energy’s subsidiary, Afek Oil and Gas, exclusive petroleum exploration rights in a 153-square-mile region in Golan Heights. In 2015, above-ground geophysical tests discovered the presence of oil and natural gas reserves that could make Israel energy self-sufficient. Afek has already drilled three exploratory wells.

Israel has benefited from its illegal occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights for decades, drawing one-third of its entire water supply from the region and providing a tourist and skiing destination at the Mount Hermon Ski Resort. Despite persistent international pressure, including from the U.S., the occupation continues and will reach a new level with the extraction of fossil fuels.

Rupert Murdoch heralded his involvement in Genie Energy by touting the prosperity and freedom it will bring to the world.
Of course, the war-stricken, starving, desperate people of Syria will never see a shred of that prosperity and security. Murdoch’s Fox “news” channel has been instrumental in pushing war in the Middle East and obfuscating the role played by the U.S. in fomenting the Syrian war, and soon he and his cronies will be reaping the profits.

While they make plans to steal energy resources from illegally occupied Syria, Genie Energy engages in publicity stunts to pre-empt the criticism that will undoubtedly follow. Last Christmas they donated coats and toys to needy families in Newark, New Jersey.

Drilling in Golan Heights is also drawing concerns about its impact to drinking water supplies. Since the reserves are locked up as shale oil, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) would likely be used to extract the fossil fuels. The shale oil is in close proximity to a large aquifer which supplies drinking water to the region; the fracking chemicals and polluted water spilled onto the ground could contaminate this water supply. A temporary restraining order was issued by the Israeli High Court in 2014, but did not last long as moneyed interests won out.

Momentum for the illegal oil drilling of Syrian territory by Murdoch, Cheney and the gang is aided by the assumption that Golan Heights is already part of Israel. Afek Oil and Gas refers to their newfound field simply as “northern Israel.” A prominent Israeli politician, Naftali Bennett, in 2015, called for the world to recognize Golan Heights as Israeli territory, while calling for the expansion of Jewish settlers in the region.

“I want to challenge the entire world,” said Bennett at the 15th annual Herzliya Conference of the Institute for Policy and Strategy. “I want to give the international community an opportunity to demonstrate their ethics. Recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”

Dick Cheney, Rupert Murdoch, Jacob Rothschild, and their henchmen have a long tradition of promoting war in the Middle East and exploiting its oil resources. The cabal formed under Genie Energy, led by the unapologetic Arab hater Effie Eitam, appears to have nothing standing in the way of their next conquest in Syria’s Golan Heights.

The war in Syria is a consequence of Oil and Gas anyway.. piplines to Europe mainly, Russiais there now to upset those plans to get Gas to Europe from other sources than Russia, but the conflict is still bigger than these facts; it is mostly about dominating the Middle east ressources.. Usrael is their proxy, puppet, cause, hand and Alibi in the region..

UN rejects Israel's claim over Syria's Golan Heights

Security Council says status of the Golan will not change after Netanyahu vows it will remain part of Israeli territory.

The UN Security Council has rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's claim that the annexed Golan Heights in Syria would "for ever" remain under Israeli control.

The 15-member council agreed on Tuesday that the status of the Golan, which Israel seized from Syria in 1967, "remains unchanged", Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi, who holds this month's council presidency said.

Liu recalled a 1981 resolution which states that Israel's "decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was nul and void and without any international legal effect."

Liu said that the Council members "expressed deep concern" over Netanyahu's remarks from earlier this month that "the Golan Heights will remain in the hands of Israel for ever."

Israel's response
Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon issued a statement rejecting the council complaint.

"Holding a meeting on this topic completely ignores the reality in the Middle East," he said. "While thousands of people are being massacred in Syria, and millions of citizens have become refugees, the Security Council has chosen to focus on Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East.

"It's unfortunate that interested parties are attempting to use the council for unfair criticism of Israel."

Netanyahu's April 17 declaration came on the occasion of the first Israeli cabinet session on the Golan since the area was seized from Syria in a 1967 war and annexed in 1981.

Israel's annexation of the Golan has never been recognised by the international community.

Past US-backed Israeli-Syrian peace efforts were predicated on a return of the Golan, where some 23,000 Israelis now live alongside roughly the same number of Druse Arabs loyal to Damascus. Liu said the council supported a negotiated arrangement to settle the issue of the Golan.

The Security Council's remit is security, not sovereignty. The U.N.S.C. does not possess judicial powers. Nor, under Article 80 of the Charter, can it deprive the Jews their National Home, as deeded to them by the Ottoman Caliphs and the victorious Allies of WWI. Furthermore, under the mutually-agreed upon post-1967 U.N. Resolution 242, the U.N. agreed that Israel need only return some of the territory it captured, and committed to Israel's existence within secure boundaries. Both Syria and the Palestinian Authority agreed that 242 and 338 were bases of their relationships with Israel. Nobody seems to think Israel is secure without the Golan, not with the history of Syrians using it to shell Israeli civilians.

Once Syria calms down, some sort of peace settlement should be possible between Syria and Israel. Perhaps Israel keeps the Golan, in exchange for Jews' yielding their claims to Syrian-occupied but Jewish-owned property on the Syrian side of the Heights.

(Some readers might squawk about Jews owning property in Syria but it's important to remember that the legal basis isn't sharia but the Ottoman tanzimat-era reforms, which gave citizens equal rights to buy and sell property, regardless of their religion or nationality.)

owning property won't give you the right to annex a land.
And Golan height always were supposed to return to Syria and was not part of the area you could held.

the UN has no teeth, since the office of decolonisation is chaired by Israel and the Human rights by the Sauds.

Mineral wealth has always been a harbinger of war. Iraq, Lybia, Yemen, Algeria in the 90's, now Syria and Lebanon were all destabilized due to petroleums deposits, or pipeline right away that has been objected to as Afghanistan and Syria..

That's what was told to the Syrians and Jordanians. They did it anyway.

No, 242 said no such thing.

cute but its the text of UNSC no 242
"des" can go either way. The English text has no article, implying that not all territory need be returned. The vagueness was quite deliberate but of course in context with the "secure boundaries" bit the meaning is clear.

French is a official language of UNSC and the document in french is as valid as in English , by the way by looking at the countries that signed the resolution only England and USA supported the vague one and the rest stated their understanding is that the french version is according to the spirit of what have been discussed.
also no international body included UN and UNSC wont recognize Land grabbing due to war or use of any force since 20s
