Generous Pakistanis raise ransom money for multinational crew (11 Egyptians, six Pakistanis, four Indians)
The ordeal faced by a 22-member crew of a hijacked ship came to an end after relentless efforts of former Pakistani federal minister for human rights, Ansar Burney. The sailors who had spent the last 10 months in captivity have now been freed and will soon be re-united with their families in their respective countries. Indian philanthropists who had committed to collect part of the ransom backed out at the last moment and put the whole mission and lives of all captive men in jeopardy. However, many prominent Pakistani politicians, philanthropists, human rights activists and common people of Pakistan opened their hearts and wallets to collect the ransom money.

Meanwhile families of Indian sailors who were imprisoned along with their Egyptian and Pakistani counterparts have expressed their anger at the apathy of their government. They have profusely thanked Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney and the government of Pakistan for their role in collecting the money and negotiating with the pirates to seek freedom of all crew members and not just Pakistani sailors.

If India goes out and saves thousands of lives by preventing a pirate attack at sea in 2 years time we will be told "Ha we paid to release your 6hostages in 2011 " by the Pakistanis

even if you repaid it with interest pakistanis would still have paid for your hostage release in 2011 without any expectation of having the money paid back.

I thought the shipping company paid the ransom? And Ansar Burney just negotiated the ransom money down from 20 million to 2.1 million. What am i missing?
