Anyways, Army did accept his DoB as 1951 few years into his service. But somehow, surreptitiously, the year of birth as 1950 crept in ( maybe due to some miscommunications between the two internal dept. in army incharge of maintaining records ). This fact was revealed only very late when he rose to the rank of commander (when both DoB and seniority starts playing a major role in future promotions). And when it came to light, the subsequent CoAS refused to entertain any modification to his DoB.

In all fairness, GoI didn't had any role in creating/propagating this mess. It just went by the Adjutant general's records.

There is a reason why corrupt Generals like Deepak Kapoor favoured this guy, why V.K. Singh doesn't want this chap as CoAS. IMO, he should just resign and hand over the reigns to Lt. Gen Ghosh maybe or the other Lt. gen (forgot his name)

That was never in the question. SC of India always has the final word. It was a personal matter between Chief and the MoD's bureaucratic-politico nexus. The latter one won. I'm DISAPPOINTED!
