Malaysia is in, Indonesia is an observer for now and will join in eventually.. by the way this is a coalition against terrorism not an UMMA's NATO like organization..

Jab tak official NOC nahi dedia jata main iss par yaqeen nahi karsakta..

Saudis are requesting for his services, whether government is ready to give NOC is a different story.. Plus he raised some valid points last year on the extent of involvement of this force for other participant countries. This force should not be confined to protecting 4-5 countries only. This was his concern. If he is able to get some clear answer on his reservations, I will be a happy person to accept this news (of course after NOC is issued).

@bold....I think he got those answers... kiun ke ye tu confirm hai ke Raheel Sharif ne NOC k liye request de di hai.... and tht even govt is willing/ready to give NOC... some ppl are even saying tht NOC has already been given...this time, news seems correct...

Important think to note is the negotiations with Iran. I think this is his trademark signature that he has brought to the table. Now it is up to Iran to show it is sincere in the cause of Ummah and uniting Muslims against terrorism.

In addition the bloody sectarian wars will end in Syria and Yemen.

Once again Pakistani's rejoicing on news which seems highly dubious. Nothing will come out of this just like the last time when so much noise was made. Too many celebrating prematurely once again.

LAHORE: Former army chief General (r) Raheel Sharif will formally join and lead the Saudi-led 39 countries' coalition in May this year, Daily Times learnt on Saturday.

According to sources, a letter seeking a no objection certificate (NOC) in this regard was sent by the Saudi government to the Pakistani government.

In reply to the Saudi letter, Pakistan granted an official NOC on March 6, 2017, permitting the former army chief to head the military coalition. The Kingdom has also planned to hold a conference in Riyadh, coalition's headquarter, to formally announce General (r) Raheel's appointment as the head.

Sources also confirmed that this coalition would be consisting of serving as well as retired army personnel from various countries with an aim to curb the menace of terrorism from the face of Muslim countries.

The purpose of this coalition was to fight against ISIS and other militant outfits operating in different countries. Turkey, Bangladesh, UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Sudan, Malaysia, Egypt, Yemen and other countries are included in the coalition.

The would-be coalition chief, after his formal announcement, will start negotiations with Iran in order to convince the country join the coalition. Iran was initially not included in the grouping which was translated by some as a vague attempt to forge a Sunni Muslim alliance against Shiite Iran to curtail its influence in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and the rest of Middle East.

At the time of its constitution, there were 34 countries in the alliance, the number of which was raised to 39. For the last two years, the Saudi-led coalition is busy conducting a military operation in Yemen, where Houthis drove out the government led by President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is believed to be in exile in Saudi Arabia.

A senior government official, on the other hand, has denied regarding issuance of any such NOC by the Pakistani authorities in reply to the Saudi request.

So we can expect new equipment and new GHQ paid by KSA? As those were part of conditions from RS to join the force as reported some time ago by media.

Pakistan is a regional power...Only Muslim nuclear power, always have footprints in Middle East, Europe and Asia...

Go ahead, beloved General...May Allah bless you and curse your enemies...

Invitation needs to be send to Iran as well so that they can't say we were not invited or alliance is against us...If Iran doesn't come, no problem at all...We will move on.

Time for Pakistan to show its global outreach to its enemies...

They won't! Write my words down somewhere to explore history.

This is known as institutional training. Pakistan Army is one of the best and most organized army in the world. It has always produced world class Generals. Be it General Raheel Sharif, Gen Pervez Musharraf, Gen Hamid Gul etc. It has always produced the best commandos in the world. Despite the fact that Pakistan Army budget was 48% of the defense budget means $3854 Million for fiscal year 2016-17 other than procurement budget and paramilitary forces budget.

Its gonna make Pakistan more powerful in middle east and gonna make Pakistan powerful in international politics too. Best of luck General we love you...

What were the conditions?

When RS visited KSA after retirement Pakistani media circulated the news in which few conditions were mentioned and all were not personal instead all were about Pakistan getting things.
