Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith hopes country's GDP growth in the current 2012-13 fiscal will 6.3 per cent or more.

Muhith told a gathering at the secretariat that the GDP growth could be as high as 6.7 or 6.8 percent with country about to reap bumper Boro rice, potato and maize harvests.

“This year the investment in the public sector has also gone up by 1.65 percent,” he added.

Muhith claimed his year’s potato production was about 10 percent more than last year’s. “Boro yield is also expected to be higher than that in the last year while the production of maize would be substantially higher,” he added.

He was addressing a function of the UAE-Bangladesh Investment Company Limited at his ministry.

The Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has projected a GDP growth 6.03 percent in its economic survey ahead of the upcoming budget.

“I think the BBS statistics is not right. They have taken into account of only eight months,” Muhith said added.
