Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

. . .
You need a slow moving projectile/weapon, OR attack in quick succession to overwhelm trophy tracking radar. Hizbullah came up with twin launch tube ATGMs previously for this. They fire 2 ATGMS in quick succession from same launcher & trophy was failing to track the second one. Not sure Israel upgraded the system to overcome this flaw.

Other option is small drones. Drones are slow and projectiles that travel below a certain speed won't trigger trophy. FVP drones and loitering ammunitions can hence attack it. If you remember the October 7 video of Merkava destruction, it was a Quadcopter and it didn't trigger Trophy.
Hamas pamphlet [translated] for taking down idf armor, also points out the weakness in the trophy system and how to successfully defeat it.

US President Joe Biden has ordered an airstrike against a weapons depot in Syria that is allegedly used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups, marking Washington’s latest response to drone and rocket attacks on its bases in the region.
Two US F-15 fighter jets carried out the latest airstrike on Wednesday in eastern Syria, the Pentagon said in a statement. The US had launched strikes in the same region on October 26 against Iranian-backed militant groups that Washington has blamed for attacks on its bases.
Illegal US outposts in Syria and military bases Iraq have been attacked at least 38 times since October 17, reflecting rising tensions in the region amid the Israel-Hamas war. Tehran has repeatedly warned that various regional forces won't sit idle and and that “new fronts” will be opened, if Washington continues to support Israel in its bombing of Gaza.

At least 45 US troops have been injured in the drone and rocket attacks. An October 18 attack on the Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq led to the death of a US contractor, who reportedly died while sheltering in place.
“The United States is fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities,” the Pentagon said. “We urge against any escalation.”
US troops have illegally occupied the oil-rich region of northeastern Syria since 2014, ostensibly to fight Islamic State (IS, formerly known as ISIS) terrorists. The occupation has continued despite the defeat of the terrorist group by Russian, US, Syrian and Iranian forces in the territories under Damascus’ control.

UNRWA and WHO deliver medical supplies to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City

- UNRWA has facilitated the delivery of WHO’s much needed emergency medical supplies and medicines to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, north of the Gaza Strip, despite huge risks to our staff and health partners due to relentless bombardments.

This is only the second delivery of lifesaving supplies to the hospital since the escalation of hostilities and the total siege of Gaza began. On 24 October, WHO delivered medical supplies to the hospital amid high insecurity.

While welcome, the quantities we delivered are far from sufficient to respond to the immense needs in the Gaza Strip. The medical conditions at Al-Shifa - the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip and one of the oldest Palestinian health institutions - are disastrous.

There are currently almost two patients for every bed available. The emergency department and wards are overflowing requiring doctors and medical workers to treat wounded and sick patients in the corridors, on the floor, and outdoors. The number of wounded increases by the hour while patients are undergoing immense and unnecessary pain as medicines and anesthetics are running out. In addition, tens of thousands of displaced people have sought shelter in the hospital’s parking lots and yards.

Al Shifa Hospital has traditionally been the most important health facility in Gaza. Its doctors, nurses and other workers have responded heroically to the current desperate situation. But they need more support. The northern areas of Gaza cannot and should not be isolated nor deprived of the delivery of humanitarian assistance. Patients there cannot be denied the health care to which they are entitled and urgently need. Aid should reach the whole of Gaza.

Medical facilities are running out of supplies and fuel. So far, no fuel has been allowed into the Gaza Strip, including to Al-Shifa hospital for over one month now.
UNRWA and WHO renew their urgent call for the delivery of fuel to humanitarian agencies in the Gaza Strip. Without fuel, hospitals and other essential facilities like desalination plants and bakeries cannot operate, and more people will most certainly die as a result.

The ability of hospitals and medical facilities to operate is paramount especially during conflicts. In line with international humanitarian law, we call for the protection of all medical facilities, personnel, patients and the wounded, for the sustained flow of humanitarian supplies and fuel at scale, and for safe and unimpeded access to deliver those supplies to health facilities wherever they are across the Gaza Strip. We also call for the medical evacuation of critically injured and sick patients.
