Gandhi Condemned by US Congress

Rep Edolphus Towns (Democrat, NY) has been very critical of India's treatment of its minorities. He has called Col GB Singh's book "definitely controversial" but worth reading to broaden perspective on Gandhi and understand the foundations of India. He has advocated declaring India as a "terrorist state" in the past. He is currently serving as Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The americans know **** about atrocities on minorities. And I sent understand what he means by foundation of india and broaden perspective on gandhi? Indias constitution is enough for them and the entire world to know that we are free and all are equal.

You can fool some of the poeple all the time, all the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time.
Slowly but steadily the truth about Mr. Mohandas Gandhi’s racism is becoming self evident to most Americans. What was only whispered a few decades ago, what was only mentioned in hushed coversations a few years ago, is now part of the Congressional Record of the United States of America. The cacaphony of the criticism against Mr. Gandhi is now being shouted from the top of the mountains and is consecrated in the library of congress books. The farce cannot be hidden anymore.

My request to all sane people on this forum. Please do not hate this guy or the people who compiled the above articles. They need our sympathy. Please forgive them and let us pray together.

Are all Indians really free and equal? What about the 250 million Dalits? Are they equal to the rest?

Over 250 million people are victims of caste-based discrimination and segregation in India. They live miserable lives, shunned by much of society because of their ranks as untouchables or Dalits at the bottom of a rigid caste system in Hindu India. Dalits are discriminated against, denied access to land, forced to work in slave-like conditions, and routinely abused, even killed, at the hands of the police and of higher-caste groups that enjoy the state's protection, according to Human Rights Watch.

In support of its assertions of Dalit abuse in India, the Human Rights Watch has documented the following abuses:

* Over 100,000 cases of rape, murder, arson, and other atrocities against Dalits are reported in India each year. Given that Dalits are both reluctant and unable (for lack of police cooperation) to report crimes against themselves, the actual number of abuses is presumably much higher.

* India's own agencies have reported that these cases are typically related to attempts by Dalits to defy the social order, or demand minimum wages and their basic human rights. Many of the atrocities are committed by the police. Even perpetrators of large-scale massacres have escaped prosecution.

* An estimated forty million people in India, among them fifteen million children, are bonded laborers, working in slave-like conditions in order to pay off a debt. A majority of them are Dalits.

* According to government statistics, an estimated one million Dalits are manual scavengers who clear feces from public and private latrines and dispose of dead animals; unofficial estimates are much higher.

* The sexual slavery of Dalit girls and women continues to receive religious sanction. Under the devadasi system, thousands of Dalit girls in India's southern states are ceremoniously dedicated or married to a deity or to a temple. Once dedicated, they are unable to marry, forced to become prostitutes for upper-caste community members, and eventually auctioned into an urban brothel.

Although there are laws in India to deal with caste-related problems of bonded labor, manual scavenging, devadasi, and other atrocities against Dalit community members, the reality is that such laws are widely ignored by the law-enforcement agencies and the perpetrators.

he was murdered by a hindu in an act of rage...hindu right wing were not happy with him ...as simple as that...

:what::what: And you think the murder of a world recognised leader is a small thing for you because the good hindu mob was angery over the stance of great leader about Low cast hindus and Pakistan.

.
Give me any famous person (living or dead) including Jinnah and I will show you 20 articles denouncing that person and showing him /her as a demon. This thread is non sense and does not require any responses. I know a similar one was earlier deleted by the moderators. Hope this one meets the same fate..

karan, read the opening post, The US congress has the comments NOT Pakistan or anyone else from our country.

And when we are open to welcome criticism on religion and other famous personalities then whats wrong with debtaing this and countering the view of US congress.

Why dont you come up with arguments countering the Congress view

Do you even have any idea, whatsoever, why Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated?

FYI, whatever supposed reasons you assumed and posted are incorrect. Get to know about Saverkar and Nathuram Godse and their history first.

Oh, btw, if it werent for Gandhi, tell me one another figure who would be the inspiration for Dr King and Nelson Mandela and their struggle for equal rights? Notice, both these well known names are of Black people fighting for black peoples' rights and inspired by the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi!

Most importantly, if it werent for Mahatma Gandhi and his struggles, contrary to what many in Pakistan would love to believe, Pakistan would not have come into being.

Check my earlier post. And in many other such threads i also supported him. And i know why he was killed.

And it was the own Indian Hindus who celeberated killing of a great man and Godse was hailed as a hero.
These followers of Saverkar still dont feel ashamed.

Gobbi thats why i said step foward for proving US congress wrong instead of brushing anything critical under the carpet

Edolphus Towns is a closet republican in democratic clothing just like Joe Libermann. He's despised by the black community and leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. He is the one who is guilty of accepting money from telecom industries and opposing net neutrality - a hot topic for freedom of information advocates. He created a furore in the US Congress over his remarks about Indian government complicity in attacks on minorities. However, given the timing of his stupid act, it was quite evident that he was deeply affected by attacks on the Christian minority in India in those days, a despicable act indeed. Come to think of it, I assume he might belong to one of those mega-Churches or possibly a Pentecostal Christian and hence all that noise.

Now this person raises his fi!thy finger on one of the greatest leaders the World has ever known and who was/is a source of inspiration for the very freedom and rights that Towns so enjoys and abuses?

Anywho, the White House turned down his request to name India as a 'terrorist state' for want of any evidence of Indian Govt's complicity in any attacks on minorities.

Any politician can introduce a motion or bill in the Congress. Its what they do. Whether it passes or not, whether its given importance or not, is a different matter altogether.

Cynthia McKinney produced a motion fr Balkanizatin of India. The Pakistani lobby thought of it as a great victory to themselves look where that woman is now Gubbi. The Indian and Jewish community made her hit the floor

Gandhi was not the leader of Pakistan's independence. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Muslim League were the leaders of Pakistan's independence. Gandhi wanted Pakistan to stay with india while he preached his hindutva in indian congress.
I did not say he was leader of Pakistan, but he was leader of indian independence which is common for both Pakistan and India
