What's new

G20 Summit: US, India, UAE, Saudi to finalise Middle-East shipping, railway deal

yes but off loading and unloading takes lot of times. It includes labour cost and waste of time
This is not bundles of Chaddis tied with string. Trade takes place with containers and those get shifted with cranes quickly and efficiently and nowadays automatically with AI. They can load and unload a countries six months of trade within hours on the larger port facilities

This route doesn't make any sense for India and definitely not sustainable. BTW Europe's priority is meeting its energy needs and if the U.S do not pressurize them they would prefer to normalize ties with Russia. The winner if there is anyone here is Middle East who has got a lot of oil and gas and can connect to Europe by land. What does India offer that Europe needs? For everything else China already has a larger share of exports. It exports at least 10x of India
Clearly the US the EU and the Saudi's are morons, They clearly no nothing about trade unlike you who has worked out the route makes no sense.
There are several research papers which absolutely contradict you but then they really are not as smart and well researched as your views

Just because you see bd flag on my name you need to bring garments lol. Typical Indian.

This deal is just a mirror and smoke bs. The only type of trade deal that will have some real impact for India if USA sign similar to nafta with Indians. Then india can transform the way Mexico did. Other then free trade deal it’s just another laughable bs deal. Same goes with eu free trade deal.

Dumb shits like you think that your shit hole has higher per capita than India. No wonder you lots are chaprassis all around the world. Go stitch your chaddis. Discussion at this level is not your cup of tea. Lol.
Yawn

if bd is shit hole and Indian gdp is lower then bd what does that mean lmao….But how a cow urine drinker understood that.

Is this your daddy’s forum? I can discuss what I like. Go and watch rape **** or Uber deliver what ever u do in USA lol.

You said build back better. That is meant only for America, and US gives far more aid to third world countries than any other.

All these countries will benefit. Vietnam is cheap but doesn't have the engineering talent or English skills that India does. More complex process will probably move to India Mexico and ASEAN are more expensive and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Even countries like Bangladesh may gain as they have experience in garments and are cheaper than China.

The PPP adjusted per capita GDP of India is higher than Bangladesh and the poor in India receive a lot of subsidies and state support. The average person in India is slightly better off than the one in Bangladesh.
USA gives third world in the form aid. Show us an infrastructure project usa did for a third world. They are absent.

Secondly india will get some fdi and some pie from China. But that will not be a game changer. Back in 2000 when China enter wto there was barely any one else to compete with them. Now world has changed. There are too many countries fighting for same manufacturing jobs. And saying Vietnam don’t have engineering talent Is not accurate. They have excellent education system. Every county in ASEAN or Mexico are good competitors.

And yes bd is either bit poorer or similar then average Indians. The reason I bring gdp because most Indians here think india is USA and bd is Mexico lol. In reality usa gdp is 7 times higher then Mexico. Indian gdp is not even 10 percent higher even if I take ppp. Even it was twice as bd you could have say that’s something….

Saudis and other Arabs are morons if they are also planning to invest $100 billion in Pakistan and they are morons cozying up to China, Russia, Turkiye and Iran eh?

E.U's economy is Germany's economy and Germany's economy is in recession thanks to Russia-Ukraine war. Americans? They are not the same anymore now. Where have they been successful these days? Once again they are just desperate in attempt to contain China and India is that perfect tool. Wait for Trump to get re-elected and all the happy days of India will come to a halt. America first will once again gain momentum.

What are you talking about? They were paying for most of infrastructure spending in Afghanistan before Taliban took over. They are not an authoritarian regime like China, so they don't force aid recipients to use American companies and labour like China does. Many projects in Afghanistan were executed by Indian companies and funded by Americans. They are the major donor for multilateral agencies as well.

Yes, all of Chinese manufacturing won't move to India, but there are going to be enough exports from India to Middle East and Europe to justify India's investment in the corridor.

Vietnam may have a good education system, but there is no comparison with the quality and quantity of Indian engineers. CEOs of major American companies have been educated in India. So they will naturally have an affinity for India.

Obviously, both are developing countries. Even China is not a rich country . India is technologically more advanced than Bangladesh in most areas and has a much bigger economy in absolute terms, but there are still large pockets of backwardness in India. However, most people won't claim BD is richer than India just because its currency is slightly overvalued right now.

Also, the direction of trade is not unidirectional. One major strategic advantage for India will be a much shorter link to Israel which is an important defence and technology partner.

.
It 20 years since CPEC was going to be the engine of trade for Pakistan. Where is that trade ?
When one boat disembarks at Gwadar in six months it is all over the Pakistani press promising untold riches.
All Pakistan has is debts and more debts but no trade.
The alternative is for goods ALREADY being traded, it is CHEAPER and FASTER by 40%
It is a route based IN REALITY and offers REAL ADVANTAGES with participants that are fully loaded in terms of finance, no dodgy Chinese usury in sight

Because Pakistan doesn't use it up to maximum potential.

But instead engage in political issues that destabilize the country and plummeting the economy.

"Authoritarian? And force aid recipients?"

I wonder if you understand what you are saying? Lol

You mean China is a bigger boss than USA?

China is commanding the world? The boss of the world?

Game-changing investment’: Biden on India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor

Emphasising the global significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) launched on Saturday, US President Joe Biden projected it as "a big deal" and a "game-changing investment" for the US.

He highlighted the US's commitment to investing in the novel rail line extending from Angola towards the Indian Ocean, and envisaged it as a crucial step to foster job creation and enhance food security on a global level. He forecasted the term 'economic corridor' to resonate prominently in the forthcoming decade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of IMEC on Saturday, the first day of the G20 Summit. The initiative is in collaboration with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, France, Italy, Germany, and the US.

PM Modi conveyed that this corridor would be a "major medium of economic integration between India, West Asia, and Europe", delineating a fresh chapter in global connectivity and sustainable development. Further emphasizing the substantial prospects this project intends to offer, he noted, "This corridor will show a sustainable way to the whole world."

The collaborative project sets the stage for greater economic integration between nations through its two delineated paths: the east corridor connecting India to the Arabian Gulf and the northern artery binding the Arabian Gulf to Europe.

These corridors, conceived to facilitate smoother transit of goods and services, will leverage a sophisticated network of railways and shipping routes backed by digital and electricity cable networks and clean hydrogen export pipelines.

Anchored under the umbrella of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment (PGII), fostered by the G7 nations, the corridor aims to be a robust counter to China's Belt and Road Initiative.

The G7's collective endeavour, facilitated by PGII, will fund infrastructural developments in emerging nations, further nourishing global economic linkages with energy products pivotal in the trade enhancement amongst the participant countries.

Praises for the 'historic initiative'
European Union President, Ursula von der Leyen, pinpointed the efficiency the corridor promises by significantly reducing travel time by 40%, articulating it as the "most direct connection between India, Middle East, and Europe."

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohd bin Salman expressed eagerness towards the fruition of this transformative initiative.

The White House called the envisaged rail infrastructure as a reliable and cost-efficient alternative supplementing current maritime and road transit networks, enhancing global trade potentials exponentially. The participant countries pledged to forge ahead with this historic initiative, committing to a diligent formulation of an action plan within the ensuing 60 days.

To further underscore the imperative of sovereignty, PM Modi, in the company of US President Joe Biden and a consortium of global leaders, echoed the need for respect for all nations' sovereignty as they unveiled this sea-land connectivity endeavour. This pronounced emphasis was a testament to the shared vision towards counterbalancing the controversial Belt and Road Initiative of China.

The high-level engagement witnessed the confluence of world leaders including the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and World Bank chief Ajay Banga. This monumental coalition underscores the global consensus and shared vision for a project of this magnitude and significance.

What is IMEC?
The IMEC project, which bore seeds in discussions as early as May 2023, is envisaged to revolutionize connectivity, bypassing the existing roadblocks in India-Pakistan relations and facilitating rail connectivity between Europe and the Persian Gulf states, possibly extending to Israel in the future.

The operationalization of the ship-cum-train route through the IMEC might offer a vital transit solution for a range of products, enhancing trade efficiencies and carving a sustainable path forward.

As global leaders pen down their commitments in the Memorandum of Understanding, a new chapter in global economic dynamics seems to be on the horizon, promising transformative integration and sustainable avenues for growth, job creation, and trade across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It stands as a testament to unity, foresight, and collaborative growth, embodying hope for a future marked by open, secure, and prosperous global relations.

The corridors of IMEC, once operational, are set to mark a milestone in global infrastructure, recalibrating the pulse of trade and economy across continents

You mean railway and highway from India to Israel?

Can it?
There are railways and highways connecting India and Pakistan , only gates and signals are to be opened at wagha and attari border .

.
Honestly, this seems to be a logistical nightmare.

Its all good you want to bypass Pakistan, Iran, China etc.

But has a feasibility study done? You’re going to load goods into ships, unload, and transport the goods via rail or road onwards to Middle East and Israel.

The Chinese BRI has already got a 2 decade head start. And eventually it will link Iran, Middle East with BRI.

Seems the net winner in all these games are the Arabs.

Compared to BRI's land route to Europe this is one is infinitely more shorter and less time consuming.

USA is drowning these countries with more debt.

They are already flooded with USA debt.

Basically, the IMEC is the same as whatever development aid program.

I wonder if you understand what you are saying? Lol

You mean China is a bigger boss than USA?

China is commanding the world? The boss of the world?
I mean American executive power is accountable to Congress and courts. America doesn't have state run enterprises and when Americans give development aid they don't impose conditions that only American companies and American labour can be used.

Quantity and quality of Indian engineers?

India doesn't perform well in PISA, but Vietnam does.

No one in India knows what PISA is. Even I had to Google it. It is a competition for 15 year old kids. What does that have to do with engineering talent. Almost no on in India knows about it and India hasn't participated there since 2009. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Top engineering departments in US universities, especially in CS and EE are full of Indian faculty and doctoral students and top tech companies are run by India-educated executives. There may be some great Viet engineers as well but it is not the first company an American executive will think of when he has to find engineers at a lower cost than in the US.
You are selling words, not result.

But I like your spirit!

India should achieve success and prosperity for its people.
Blah.
