What's new

G20 is coming! Have a look at the host city

I haven't been to Suzhou. Hangzhou railway station has more of an Indian feel. Whereas Shanghai railway station is almost like an airport. The town was quiet and I didn't know that 10 million people live there.
Hangzhou Railway Station is a nearly abandoned old station which is hindering the redevelopment of downtown Hangzhou. (@Sinopakfriend Do u agree to demolish it in your city? We have planned a new terminal station in Hangzhou)
Actually most people use the new Hangzhou East, also connected by subway.
Shanghai railway station and south railway station are traditional stations.
I think you mean Shanghai Hongqiao Station, which is smaller than Hangzhou East.
Yes, Hangzhou is a 10 million people city, also the headquarter of Alibaba.

Hangzhou East.

@Sinopakfriend I have just searched, the renovation project of Hangzhou's old railway station was finished in May 2016. I used to have very negative impression on that station. Some bullet trains stop at Hangzhou, some stop at Hangzhou East. I tried my best to avoid Hangzhou Railway Station. When I first visited Hangzhou as a junior middle school student, that station was a hell.

Greener, cleaner, more organised now!
A combination of Chinese classic beauty and 21st modernity!

Definitely deserves to be a G20 venue.
Check this small boutique guesthouse in a small village in Hangzhou.
Affordable luxury with less than 100 dollars!
Such boutique accommodation is the new normal of China's crazily bombing domestic tourism.
No matter in Hangzhou of Eastern China, or Lijiang of Western China, tourism is simply crazy.....crazy.....2000+ such guesthouses in Lijiang alone

This one in Shaxi Township, only $25 per night
Luxury of simplicity and tranquility

Truly a beautiful sight!

So much of precious cultural heritage is lost...whatever is left must be treated as national treasure.

Perservation and restoration for generations to come. Past and future must have a linkage.

Just beautiful. This person can spend the rest of his life in an old courtyard house... sipping tea and talking things..like Tao.

Check out the new HSR hub in Hangzhou's southern suburb.
Estimated to open in 2017 (east square in 2018).
Don't you think Hangzhou East is little bit overcrowded at weekends?

Hangzhou South HSR Hub, designed based on the ideas of Jiangnan's classical gardens
Will be the terminal station of Hangzhou-Changsha, Hangzhou-Ningbo and Hangzhou-Huangshan HSR.

Yes, Andrew, there are a lot of peple there...you are right.

Don't laugh at me, if I say, that it is a great design but we must also incorporate traditional elements in the modern architecture.

A harmonious evolution of the old into the new...

Sometimes, when I see the modern buildings and urban architecture... somehow it feels alien.

Architecture must reflect Chinese cutural heritage somehow.

But good thing is that this changing slowly.

I have feeling that in this phase of Chinese development we will begin to see the rebirth of original Chinese design from buildings to consumer product designs.

The Chinese people are beginning to have confidence in being Chinese.

Many, many thanks for sharing these beautiful gems with the good people here at PDF!

Nice scenery ,will visit China in future.

You are right.
When you were poor, the only thing you cared about was to build a proper shelter.
But then living standards are significantly improving, people are seeking more.

Check this railway station in my city, built in early 2000s.
Chu Kingdom style 2000 years ago

And our museum, free of charge!

More to meet our Asian brothers. Lot of scenery in India too and large buildings are not my forte. I rate talk with Humans over staring tall buildings.
