Funeral held for former Chinese military leader Liu Huaqing
The funeral for Liu Huaqing, former vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, was held here Monday.
Liu died of illness in Beijing on Jan. 14 aged 95. His body was cremated at Beijing's Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery Monday.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, top political advisor Jia Qinglin and other senior leaders including Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang, along with many other people, bid a final farewell to Liu at the funeral.
The General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee hailed Liu as "a seasoned loyal Communist fighter, an outstanding proletarian revolutionist, politician and strategist, and an excellent leader of the Party, the state and the military."
Liu had been a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He joined the CPC in 1935.
He became a major general in 1955 and a general in 1988.
