Factories in the commercial capital of Pakistan are warning that they may need to shut production due to sky-high energy costs, another blow to the nation’s fledgling economy.
Surging power costs make it impossible to continue production for 40,000 industries in Karachi, according to an appeal by nine business groups in local newspapers on Thursday. The business groups appealed to the government for cheaper fuel charges for Karachi, one of world’s biggest cities with a population of more than 20 million.

The textile industry also does a whole lot of do numbri, they take the subsidised fuel meant for textile processes and use it for their CPP's.

I'd take this with a grain of salt. Businesses around the world are able to cope somehow, but Pakistan must have some specially fragile businesses. Not to worry, this is the global market nature's way to cull the weak and inefficient businesses. The well-run will survive and flourish once it's all over.
Maybe instead of complaining they should figure out how to do something else or better instead of living on subsidies, then not paying income taxes but keeping the price of goods the same as everywhere else

Bro stop hating on Karachi. These 40K (not 400k) contribute to half of our manufactured goods exports and also provides import substitution and tons of jobs to workers from Punjab and rest of the country.

Back in 1980s in every shoe chain you would ahve this stall with cheepy deals - you would always find these really cheap 'pumps' made of rubber and fabric sewn together.Today even this is not seen today - instead they from Philipines or Vietnam and better quality.

exactly how did it get so bad for the biggest city in Pakistan the city that kick started industrialization in Pakistan the city that had the most educated/technical people in Pakistan! what happened to KARACHI!!
