As far as making stuff goes....do soldiers make or even purchase the stuff they use? NOPE. They are given money (= goods and wealth) to USE the stuff others make. Soldiers, as part of gov't, do not care about creation. That is a good part of why Rome and Sparta fell. Land controlled by takers and users.

Recently, the "Key Technology Research on Large Multifunctional Hospital Ship" project participated by the Civil Ship Center of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp., passed the project acceptance meeting organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

As an important research unit of the project, Wuchuan Group has broken through key technologies such as hospital cabin layout, medical transfer and emergency escape route layout, and has initially mastered the research and development process and methods of large-scale civil hospital ship, and developed a model of 30,000 gross tonnage with 280 beds, a new generation of green, safe and environmentally friendly civilian multifunctional hospital ships with medical support capabilities equivalent to third-tier hospitals on land to serve the southern seas.

The hospital ship adopts a podded electric propulsion method, NOx emission meets Tier Ⅲ requirements, SOx emission meets the global sulfur emission requirement of less than 0.5%, and is capable of international navigation. The hospital area has a surgical department, an emergency department, an outpatient department, medical technology department and other functional units, equipped with 6 operating rooms, 2 CT machines, 1 angiography machine, 1 MRI machine and other large-scale medical equipment. It has the diagnosis and treatment functions for common diseases in the region and also for serious diseases such as tumor, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, respiratory system and injury, poisoning, etc. It will not only provide medical security services for target sea areas, but will also be able to undertake intergovernmental humanitarian medical assistance mission.

[Hudong Zhonghua obtains another order for super-large LNG ship]

June 18, Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China State Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. and a joint party represented by China National Petroleum International Corporation in Shanghai signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of 3 LNG carriers for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation project. This is after three actual ships were put into construction in June last year, central enterprises such as PetroChina, China Shipbuilding Corporation and other central enterprises have once again joined hands to build China's LNG transportation industry chain, contribute to the protection of national energy security, and continue to write a new chapter in "National Shipbuilding".

The project adopts the fourth-generation "Changxing Series" large-scale 174,000 cubic meter LNG ship design independently developed by Hudong Zhonghua. The ship has a total length of 295 meters, a width of 45 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters, and a speed of 19.5 knots. It adopts the world's latest generation of dual-fuel low-speed propulsion power system to further optimize performance and reduce energy consumption. The daily fuel consumption is less than 100 tons. This type of ship is equipped with advanced environmental protection devices, whether it is operated in gas or oil mode, it can meet the most stringent emission standards of the International Maritime Organization, and its technical performance, environmental protection indicators and reliability requirements have reached the world's first-class level and has good international brand reputation.

Massive vessels, the biggest in world, will be able to carry 23,000 containers

China is building the world's largest container ships, each of which will be able to carry more than 23,000 standard containers, which together can hold, for example, more than 1 billion units of the Apple iPhone X.

The construction of the first two megaships started in late July. They're being built by Jiangnan Shipyard Group and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, both of Shanghai, according to China State Shipbuilding Corp, a State-owned giant that owns the two companies.

The ships are expected to be delivered to the customer, CMA CGM, a French container transportation and shipping company, in 2020.

The Marine Design and Research Institute of China, a CSSC research arm that designed the ships, said they will be the latest and biggest in its Heracles class-named after the hero of Greek mythology.

Each of the vessels will be 400 meters long and 61.3 m wide, and will be capable of moving 220,000 metric tons of cargo.

They will be propelled by liquefied natural gas, making these the first large container ships to be driven by the eco-friendly fuel, as opposed to diesel, the traditional propellant for large vessels, the institute said. Polluting emissions will be exponentially reduced, it added.

CSSC beat five world-class competitors-including Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding Co and South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co and Hyundai Heavy Industries-before signing a contract for nine 23,000 container-capable vessels with the French carrier.

Yu Lai, chief designer of the new ships at the Shanghai institute, said on Thursday that the design and construction of the gigantic vessels makes China a leader in the field of container shipping.

"In the past, we followed others; now we are running ahead of them," he said. "Compared with its predecessors, this new class of container ship is larger, has a high level of automation and features better safety and environmental performance. Its construction requires state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques."

Yu said the ships will require only about 30 crew members to operate. The maximum design speed will be 22 knots, or about 41 kilometers per hour.

Currently, the largest container ships are the six vessels built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries for the Hong Kong-based container shipping and logistics service company Orient Overseas Container Line. They can hold 21,413 containers.

The second-largest is the COSCO Shipping Universe, which was designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corp and which can hold 21,237 containers.

The ship has a total length of 399.9 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, a cargo depth of 33.5 meters, and a deck area of 23,978 square meters, equivalent to 3.5 standard football fields, which is more than 60 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier. This type of ship can carry 220,000 tons of cargo, can load 23112 TEU containers at one time, and can carry 2,200 40-foot refrigerated containers. The maximum stacking layer is 24, which is equivalent to the height of 22 floors building.

[The first domestic autonomous container ship successfully launched]

On June 29, China first autonomous container ship "Zhi Fei" was successfully launched at Qingdao Shipyard and sailed to China first smart ship test site at the sea near Qingdao Blue Valley. China’s first 15,000 DWT shuttle oil tanker delivered to CNOOC

First domestic made 15,000-ton shuttle oil tanker was delivered to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in Nantong, east China's Jiangsu Province, CNOOC announced on Wednesday.

The tanker will be used for the condensate transportation of the Shenhai Yihao (DeepSea No. 1) gas field as early as August.

Dynamic positioning shuttle tanker is designed for use in the transportation of crude oil from offshore production platforms to the land, known as "floating tubing".

The tanker marks the first dynamic positioning shuttle tanker independently built by China with a tonnage of 15,000-ton.

Compared with standard tonnage tankers of 100,000 tons it is smaller just like "integrating the functions of an aircraft carrier into a submarine", according to CNOOC.

The tanker will not only fulfill the demand for transportation of crude oil but also quickly respond to the scheduling arrangement of production operations in the complex sea conditions and weather environment, said Li Jun, manager of the project.

After entering into a construction contract in November 2019, it only took 11 month to complete the construction of the ship despite the COVID-19, using only half the time compared with the same type of ship in the world.

The delivery of the tanker is expected to provide valuable experience and reference for the construction of domestic dynamic positioning tankers and the development and utilization of deep-water oil and gas projects in the future, according to CNOOC.
