What's new

Frontier Works Organization ( FWO ) ..

Following the massive number of landslides on KKH two days back,
FWO is on the job day and night, trying to clear the road for commuters to and from GB.

M-16 Swat Motorway

It is, with a two lane diversion road in between, from approximately after the plai interchange till the last tunnel. It was covered and discussed extensively here. Phase 2 only got land acquisition funds released recently.

The motorway was originally supposed to be built using usual blasting of the mountain faces till the tunnels. But surveys were found to be flawed and the mountain faces too steep and high to be feasible for blasting. They did cut a lot, but soon land sliding and other issues became too frequent so designs were revised and thus the diversion got constructed. Yes, its a new road regardless and scales the mountains from the opposite side.

The new designs and agreements included two more tunneled passages and a couple of high bridges which effectively delayed the project substantially, not to mention FWO had to pay for those from its own resources. So now the project has six total tunnels which are now structurally complete as seen in the videos.

But recently, the designs were revised when landsliding became an issue yet again so now they will be adding open tunnels, further delaying phase-I.

FWO built the first-ever Isolation Hospital and Infections Treatment Centre in Islamabad

With the ground breaking of much needed hospital on 26 March 20, FWO immediately mobalized all the resources with sheer motivation to construct the Isolation Hospital and Infection Treatment Centre (IHITC). It was a time when on one hand, the world had halted entire import and export under fear of pandemic growth while on the other hand, intra - country lockdown had restricted movement and transportation to the critical extent.

The 250 bedded state of the art hospital having prefabricated steel structure building equipped with all sophisticated allied facilities has been constructed by FWO in just 40 days with sole use of internal resources. The sullen spells of torrential rains during limited construction period added further difficulty for the construction teams but couldn’t affect professionalism and morale of FWO engineers and workers. It is worth mentioning that the entire work was executed ensuring best health safety measures described by the Government as anti COVID-19 SOPs.

FWO made frequent visits to the site to inspect, guide and motivate FWO teams working round the clock for this national cause. To monitor live performance, FWO installed live monitoring cameras to monitor the work site.

We acknowledge the efforts and pay special gratitude to all our under mentioned partners including consultants and contractors who stood by us and worked round-the-clock with FWO to accomplish this gigantic project within stipulated time.

It is the second time in a year that two tunnels met deep inside the mountain with a tolerance of less than 2.5 centimetres. Previously, it was done on 27 Jan 2021 when two tunnels inside the mountain with a tolerance of less than 10 centimetres.

FWO has excavated 3833 metres of main Headrace Tunnel without even a single casualty in just 485 working days. So far, FWO has excavated 4.7 kilometres long tunnels at this project.
