As of now,the deal has collapsed. India will go for Su-30 MKI to cover for the shortfall and just buy a token number. But overall the deal was too expensive with Rafale cost ballooning to 200 million$ per unit.

If the statements from the ministry is right ,then it will be Su-30 MKI with AESA .Not rafale. Rafale is too costly,no ToT and plus france can backstab india like how it backstabbed russia on mistral. So ,I think India will be more careful and frugal on deals with France.

A reputation once lost is difficult to recover.Mistral has harmed the reputation of France as being independent of American-British hegemony. Indian govt is sensitive on the issue of defence deals being vulnerable to geopolitical pressure and sanctions.

Yes.Under Congress regime of Manmohan singh .Manmohan Regime was famous for corruption.Coalgate scam,3G scam etc. Also it was part of diversification plan to reduce the geopolitical influence of Russia and I believe it was C-17 and C-130 deal (they are transports,but not fighters ) .But now India will be more frugal under Modi regime 'made in India ' program. Likely more focus on domestic than Western one unless West is willing for TOT. Russians are willing for TOT on critical technologies also.
