France wants important partner India to play more critical global role

@IRA
Indeed India has made a lot of ground on economic front, but there are still grounds the size of Jupiter to cover. Corruption from bottom to top is only one hurdle (like Pakistan). For more, there are so many different political ideologies, social systems, religious communities and nationalistic peoples, that it would be next to impossible for India to ever match China.

these were the same reasons tat people two decades ago gave and said tat india would struggle to sustain itself in long run and tnx to 24yrs of sanction also, but we proved our critics wrong wait for another 15 years and see for urself

No prejudice..... but they say the bigger the ship, the sooner it sinks...... there simply are too many & too big problems for the indian government to cope with.

i agree mate there are too many problems in india at present and alwayz has been

but right now INDIAN ship is not sinking so till then cheers to indian development

and who is denying that??? yes there are problems however we are working very hard to remove them....Believe it or not we Indian's have smelled the real charm of success and will not let it go because of any Jupiter size problems......We are lucky one's who are witnessing a sea change from a third world poverty striken country with no social status in the world to a coutry who every one wants to be close to.....

Really?? What you are calling as our weakness is in fact our strengths....We are so diverse and yet we are able to progress in such a strong manner....It is this diversity which keep things in check....

good to see different countries starting to view India as a global player and want closer relation with it...this is actually a very important recognition, indicating emergence of fast growing global player.

i guess you do have a point mrwarrior006, only time will tell.

Still, Indian growth is owed much to foreign planning and guidance against the greater agenda of containing China.

Indians seem to be more focused on shouting "we're a future superpower" than actually doing something that would take them further than China. Like making peace within the neighborhood. India does not maintain cordial ties with Sri Lanka in the south, with Bangladesh in the east, with China in the north and east. Only Pakistan seems to be the lone friend on the west:pakistan:

Yet you dont recognise the hard work Indians have put in to take our country to that level......:disagree:

For starters we are not a future super power... Neither want to be one... All we are interested is hoping for a better future for the people of India

Unfortunately, it seems that the people of our region including Pakistan and India, lack leadership qualities. We can follow the advice of good or bad allies or friends, but on our own, we seem to be unable to make our own mark. Go through history and you'll see that we've always followed those who've achieved, and not sought to achieve ourselves and let others follow us.

In this context, it is hard to see India making itself a superpower, let alone sustaining it. The sub-continent seems to be lacking that self-identity that makes a Great Civilization.

I think France comes in top 5 friends of India.
I will say that France is as close to India as Russia is,may be more closer.
They're quite determined to have a 'multi polar' world. Everything said and done they hate the amercan's guts. Not that they expect us (and some others like us) to be a super power or anything but as great power coalitions they think we can play a co-ordinated game.

oh come on now, don't try to be diplomatic. that what indians walk, talk, sleep and eat about these days. super power, super power , super power. but it would be nice to see a better future for the poor of the region (including Indian and Pakistan).

As one person on ABC said, "India is like an ant hill, Billions of people, millions of things being done at the same time, corruption, traffic and chaos but against all odds Things get done and India continues to grow exponentially". There is a unique order among all this chaos, you just have to notice it. This huge diversity and diverse political ideology is India's strength. A model for the world in how to maintain a democracy in such a diverse nation, dont look at India with pity but in awe of its mass scale and ever increasing vigor. Give India 20 years and we will be among the best in the world.

hmmm, now thats a nice point.... still, what would the French not give to keep international balance in the favor of their own continent than shifting it to Asia.

A ridiculous comment. There is no 'identity loss' in integrating with the world and having friends. This is not the age of chingiz khan and the rules are different.

I don't think they're too bothered about their continent either. The reality is that asia represents 1/3 rd of humanity and has shown that it can take care of itself. All the bluster of the colonial world has been blown away and that's the reality. I don't think countries like france would take an unrealistic attitude towards asia. Sure they'd want europe to be prosperous but would consider it unrealistic to deny asia the rightful place.

I have said many times in the past as well, that it's like a golden time for india where she can do anything she want. Just if the Indian government is smart enough!
