TEHRAN: Four Iranian border guards were killed on Wednesday in a clash with armed rebels near the Pakistani border, Iranian media reported.

The fighting occurred in the Rask region in the southwestern Sistan-Balochistan province, Iranian media said without giving further details.

Last month, state television reported the death of a police officer and five “terrorists”, said to be members of the Jaish al-Adl group, in the nearby Khash region.

Iran expels 170 as human trafficking goes unchecked

Jaish al-Adl is thought to be behind a number of attacks in Sistan-Balochistan in recent years, and Tehran accuses it of ties to Pakistan-based Al Qaeda cells.

Ninety per cent of Iran’s population is Shia, but the country has significant Sunni populations in its restive border regions, notably Kurdistan in the northeast, and Sistan-Balochistan and Khuzistan in the southwest.

There has been a recent uptick in violence in Iranian Kurdistan, with local media reporting the death of 33 rebels and six members of security forces since mid-June.

Eight Iranian border guards have been killed in a clash with gunmen near Pakistan, Iranian media say.

They were shot dead after the attackers crossed into Iran's Sistan Baluchistan province, according to reports.

The gunmen then fled back across the border, Iranian official said. A Sunni militant group said it carried out the attack, Iranian media reported.

Sistan Baluchistan has seen frequent clashes between Iranian forces and drug smugglers and Sunni rebels.

The deputy governor of the province, Ali Asghar Mirshekari, said "armed terrorists" had infiltrated Iran and killed the border guards on Monday, Iran's official Irna news agency reported.

Mr Mirshekari said they had used rocket-propelled grenades as well as guns.

He called on Pakistan to arrest the attackers and hand them over.

Militant group Jaish Al-Adl (Army of Justice) said it carried out the attack, according to Iranian media.

It is the deadliest incident in the impoverished province since October 2013, when 14 border guards were killed in an attack claimed by Jaish Al-Adl.

Any particular reason for posting last year's incident.

Pak issues with AF on the Torkham border
Pak issues with India on the Indian border
Pak issues with Iran on the Iranian border

The only exception is Chinese border, two inferences can be made

- All these three countries are in cahoots to harm Pakistan.

OR

- Pakistan is to blame for destabilizing the neighbourhood.

No trolling, only objective counter argumentation please

Afghanistan is a fvcked up country lets not talk about it.. This happen bcoz we have to deploy most people near your border..

Iran's sistan Balochistan province have insurgency problem even before Pakistan, Jandullah and Jaish al Adal are Iranian groups with Iranian members.. Not Pakistani,
if they cross border went into Iran and then run into Pakistan shows that both sides have no security or incompitent security on border..

Which shows that there is hostilities on all Pak borders with the exception of Chinese one, the should be a cause of concern for Pak policy makers.

Doing a quick comparison AF has borders with 6 countries, 5 of those are business as usual with the exception of the one bordering Pak.

We have no problem with pakistan... Only saudi financed terrorists creating problems!

Can you elaborate a bit on this, are you saying that Saudi is financing groups out of Pakistan to harm Iran?
This means that either Pakistan is complicit or its incompetent to stop those groups.
