Four Indians among 15 dead as Taliban bombers attack Kabul
IANS, Feb 26, 2010, 02.10pm IST

KABUL: Four Indians were among 15 people who were killed when Taliban bombers equipped with suicide vests and automatic rifles attacked a hotel and a guesthouse in central Kabul Friday, officials said.

A series of explosions occurred at the City Centre shopping complex and the Safi Landmark hotel, about 300 metre from the interior ministry, said Abdul Ghafar Sayedzadar, a senior police official.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said by phone from an undisclosed location that five Taliban bombers attacked two compounds used by foreigners.

"Our two bombers have been killed and three others are still resisting," he said. "Around 100 foreigners are surrounded by our forces in one of the compounds."

His claim, however, was rejected by Sayedzadar, who said all the attackers were dead and the area was fully under the control of Afghan security forces, adding that 16 or 17 people were killed in the attack.

Siamak Herawi, a presidential spokesman, said four Indian nationals were killed in bombings of their residence located in front of the shopping mall.

General Ahmad Zia Yaftali, chief doctor for the Afghan army, said 12 bodies were taken to army hospitals and three were taken to another hospital.

"Eight Indians and one Pakistani national were among the wounded," he said.

Farid Rahid, a spokesman for the ministry of public health, said more than 30 people were injured in the attack.

The private television channel Tolo TV said the attack targeted a guesthouse for Indians next to the shopping complex. Several people were killed, the report said.

A policeman at the scene said he saw four bodies being taken away from the guesthouse but could not say whether the victims were Indians or Afghans.

A reporter at the scene said police surrounded the shopping complex after a series of explosions and an exchange of heavy gunfire took place.

Another policeman said explosions caused by several hand grenades had damaged two guesthouses and a hotel. At least two suicide bombers were involved in the attack, said the policeman, who was at the scene and asked not to be named.

An interior ministry spokesman confirmed that several blasts had taken place. "The area is under control of the police, and police are searching for the attackers," he said.

Pools of blood could be seen on the ground, the reporter said. The ground was also covered with broken glass from the explosions.

Few people were on the streets on the rainy morning, a public holiday.

The Safi Landmark hotel on the top floor of the shopping centre is popular with Westerners. The area under attack is in the central, most fortified part of Kabul.

On January 18, Taliban fighters attacked government facilities in the capital in a standoff that lasted several hours. At least 12 people, among them seven Taliban, were killed in that attack.

Afghanistan capital Kabul hit by suicide attack

Explosions and gunfire in the centre of the Afghan capital, Kabul, have left at least 17 people dead, officials say.
A

suicide bomber detonated explosives near Kabul's main shopping centre. Several smaller blasts followed and two other attackers were shot dead.
A spokesman for the Taliban said they carried out the attacks. Two policemen are reported to be among the dead.
The violence comes as Nato and Afghan forces continue Operation Moshtarak to tackle the Taliban in Helmand province.
Kabul has been relatively quiet since 18 January, when Taliban bombers and gunmen attacked government targets and shopping malls, killing 12 people.

what they were doing there ?

RAW operatives and Intelligence personnel under the guise of civilians and civilian contractors.

I am not bluffing, there are plenty of times this has been stated by our Foreign office, intelligence agencies and so on........

If someone doesnt agree, its their problem :disagree:

However, if these Indians were truly innocent civilians, then, my utmost and sincere sympathy to Indians over their loss. :frown:

:undecided:

Most of the hotels and guest houses are used by them to conceal their identity.

At times they are attached with construction Cos but not without flavour of their Intellegence

This was a poor attempt. Not everything in this world is a conspiracy theory.

I did not to put this but the news says this as well "Eight Indians and one Pakistani national were among the wounded," he said. "

So you mean all 17 were spies from RAW/ISI/CIA/NASA/MI5/MI6 etc...:disagree:

Anyways may all concerned RIP.

When the spies mix up with common people, the attacks intended to target them indeed do kill and injure other people too.

The earlier attack in which Indians were killed indeed they were from RAW and serving Indian officers.

And BTW who says that Pakistanis injured there would not be anti-Pakistan elements ?

This word conspiracy theory is the easiest pick for shying away from realties.

Anyhting which is not backed by evidences is a conspiracy theory. Anyways let's not degrade the thread.

RIP.

Hopefully there will be a retaliation in taliban stronghold.

I am not at all degrading the thread.

Anyway I do know last time when they hit a hotel-cum RAW office in Kabul, they hit the nail.

Though Afghan and Indian govt did not reveal the exact number of casualties but infomation directly from fighters in Afghanistan had more information on that.

Most likely the Pakistan Army was not satisfied the outcome of the talks in Delhi and this is the result.

However, the hatred of the Afghans against Pakistan and their proxies will only increase by incidents like this.

hmmm if someone from across border targets you in your country then you have the right to shout its aggression. But if you are sitting in a third country and fomenting terrorism from there against your neighbours then be ready its a fair play.

You protect your interests there and we are protecting our country against your terrorism.

Your allegations of Indian involvement in terrorism have not convinced anybody other than yourself. But it is good that you are not denying responsibility.

I was only pointing out that you will pay a price in terms of the justified hatred of the Afghans (leaving aside how India may or may not respond).

 and i am the President who's words could give some support to Indian claims.

Anyway in my personal view its a two-way traffic.

I was only pointing out that you will pay a price in terms of the justified hatred of the Afghans (leaving aside how India may or may not respond).

The Afghans know very well the implications of presence of foreign terror camps including that of India on their soil.
