Seems like a pretty pointless law tbh as it will be very hard to prove.

It is a useful law because it puts the burden on the man, and not on the woman, so if the woman is being controlled by traffickers, they have no fear of speaking out and being jailed. I hope China adopts something similar or just legalizes prostitution, because the current approach wastes immense manpower on futile enforcement.

im even surprised these indian guys got caught. you have to be pretty dumb or extremely unlucky to get caught by chinese law enforcement agencies.

chinese law enforcement is one of the worst in the world. i kid you not.
all the laws are on the books, but its never enforced.
the law enforcement is so corrupt its shameful.
the law enforcement agencies are fragmented and dont even know their role, there are so many loopholes.

a few examples,

building of golf courses in china is illegal without permission, the golf course ban came into force in 2004, and since then only 10 golf courses have been officially approved, but there are approximately over 600 illegal golf courses in china right now since that law came into force. chinese police are corrupt, local governmemt officials are even more corrupt. developers steal/buy land from chinese people in the name of building 'national parks', 'resorts', etc. all the golf courses are using incredible amounts of water, but there are millions of chinese people that dont have access to drinking water. truly disgusting.
not only that, with vast land being used to build illegal golf courses, most of the arable land is being lost, thus china's food security is being undermined. china now needs to import increasing amount of food(corn, soybean, etc) causing more imports and thus decreasing our trade balance which contributes less to growth.

not only that, if you are white, chinese law dont apply to you, whites are treated as gods in china by many white worshippers. especially in places like shanghai, beijing, guangzhou. the whites are considered to know everything by officials and many others and local chinese people(especially migrants workers) to know nothing. its total discrimination against local chinese people in our own country.

One summer, in Zhongshan city of Guangdong, I was walking with my girlfriend at 11 PM on a bridge and I was approached by these girls who asked in Cantonese style Mandarin "Hey, want another?" and my girlfriend being asked by shady men "How much? I'll double his" I turned around but my girlfriend grabbed me because she knew I was going to end up with a brick in my head if I tried.

I don't mind it being legal but they should be more discrete about it. Or just legalize it completely so there's no dangerous groups of men roaming around at night.

So true. The 200000 illegal Africans and the X number of illegal Vietnamese and Burmese are an economic threat. China doesn't lack labor. We have the most abundant supply of labor on the planet. Every low income job taken by an illegal immigrant is a job taken away from a low income Chinese.

It is not a crime to be a prostitute (no jail time usually), but an administrative offense that requires registration at a police department and a small fine.

The reason these crackdowns occur is to prevent organized prostitution and to fight human trafficking.

The hotel lobbies are probably 7/10 on the scale of "class". Hotel girls are relatively high ranked prostitutes.

The type of people asking me "want another", and the shady men who asked my girlfriend "how much", are looking for 3 or 4/10's which is street level. They're OK, just average.

What I hope to see eliminated are the 1's and 2's (age >35) because that is just sad to see what should be dignified people, doing this to themselves, and for 3's and 4's to be given more rights.
