May god bless the souls of the innocents and hopefully the perpetrators are caught in due time and tried under the local law. I am still puzzeled, how do they differentiate between a muslim and is there a specific criteria that makes you a sunni or shiite. I mean the role of islamic faith is to bridge gaps not further create them, something is definately wrong overseas.
@darkinsky, As far as situation on ground, has the government implemented any measures to calm down the animosity between the communities. Also how far is malir Kant from the site of incident, as I do have extended familiè members(gramps lost their number ) and can this situation escalate further in your opinion as a resident respectively as far as the animosity is concerned.

Given it was targeted attack on Shias, one shouldn't play into hands of motives of the terrorists to create much more sectarian divide. As told by few people on PDF and news, this has been going for 10-15 years.

Going against each other will make these terrorists aim achieved. they will push to the breaking point where people start attacking each other. Like people picked up guns in Quetta.

One day a sunni is killed, one day a shia, but actually it is Pakistani killed on both days.

KARACHI: At least 48 people, including women and children, were killed and 140 injured when two powerful blasts ripped through a Shia dominated area of the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi, the latest in a string of attacks targeting the minority sect.

The first blast occurred outside an imambargah (Shia prayer hall) in Abbas Town at about 7pm as people were leaving after prayers. The second explosion went off within 10 minutes, local residents said.

Rescue officials said 48 people were killed in the blasts which caused extensive damage to residential buildings and destroyed several shops in the area.

Sindh province Health Secretary Suresh Kumar put the toll at 45. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jinnah Hospital alone received 20 bodies and several seriously injured persons. Officials at Patel Hospital said they had received eight bodies and four more people succumbed to injuries in hospital.

The toll is expected to increase as some of those injured are critical. "The blasts have caused a crater four feet deep near the main entrance," Senior Superintendent of Police Mazhar Maswani said.

An emergency was declared at hospitals across Karachi and doctors performed emergency surgeries to save victims.

Several young children were among the seriously injured, officials said.

Police officials said the first blast was caused by explosives hidden in a car that was parked near the entrance of Abbas Town.

Residents of Karachi said the explosion was heard from 10 km away. The bomb contained an estimated 150 kg of explosives and was packed with ball bearings, officials said.

There were reports that the second blast was caused by the gas cylinder of a car, though this could not immediately be confirmed. The blasts caused a power outage and triggered panic in Abbas Town, which has a large Shia population.

The first explosion destroyed the facade of two apartment blocks and damaged about 20 shops and several cars.

when sunnis and shias are getting killed alike, its not appropriate for shias to scream shia genocide, it is defaming pakistan, their own country, where are shias to sympathise us sunnis when we get bombed by drones we dont claim sunni genocide by shia zardari making secret deals with americans on drone attacks? or killed from other terrorists, many sunni ulemas have died, and no body is being sympathetic to terrorism

but these were not present during musharraf era who had kept the security tight and then only sunnis were getting killed and not shias

the point is shia have the least right to claim shia genocide when their own president and chief minister are failing to protect the city of karachi and balochistan and northern areas and these guys are making politics out of those dead bodies

karachi sees tens of deaths every day and shia or suni doesnt come into the question, terrorists are looking for easy targets whether shia or sunni and this time shias are a target

let zardari the shia guy or qaim ali shah resign for they were unable to protect their shia brothers? i dont seem it occuring too

Through Zardari out.....no one care......We always have best regard for our sunnies ......We would always prefer a honest sunni leader over corrupt dishonest shia leader ....But unfortunately this terrorism has drained out the best brain of Pakistan...
We all know its not sectarian violence ......someone else is running the show

Is there any Shia dominated region in Pakistan where Shias can find safe haven and defend? I read a piece recently about how Afghanistan was heading towards a soft partition post 2014 much along the lines of what has happened with Iraq and Libya though on different lines. Why are you guys heading towards the same? Cant you stop this killing?It is proper genocide yaar sory to say. RIP to the victims and strength to those left behind. Very sad and happening too often.
