The DG ISI has very little intl. experience, which is unprecedented n bods I'll for all of us.
Gen Naveed would have been an ideal choice as as a Maj. Gen he had served as DG. C. In ISI

As i said earlier he was the guy who took down MQM terrorists and exposed their possession of Indian weapons.

Now it doesn't matter if MQM is in Sind Government or not. They can't fire him again. As DG ISI he is gonna be pissed. :)

But having said this, it might have a silver lining.

Noora Nawaz, appointed Raheel, the least competent out of the lot. That has proved a blessing in disguise for as all, as now he goes out of his way to do stuff n to prove him self.
Now noora Nawaz has appointed a fighting man with little to no intel. Experience. Let's see where that gets us. But not looking too good for noora though

The appointment is done by the PM, but according to the recommendations of the COAS.

What exactly is his background? Like what village, linguistic group, tribe etc? And I believe such aspects should be looked at for such posts. I believe martial races should be given the top army posts. Now a lot of you might not agree with my comment, but remember how General Musharraf(non-martial) had turned Pakistan army into an almost hijra force. I believe he personally feared the terrorists. It was general Kayani(martial Gakhar clan) who restored army's lost glory by inflicting a crushing defeat on the Taliban in Swat and Bajaur.

You can't be serious, as sheeda tali said Kayani was eating sattu while Raheel sallajeet. :D

Look at the body language of both militaries officer and you will visibly feel the difference. Who's the straight backed soldier proud of his country and who looks like on of those street bum scratcher .

Most of the times looks are deceptive, According to an official of Reagon's administration (probably Kissinger) Zia looked like a foolish stupid guy from his face but in reality was too intelligent to handle for americans.

has Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar ever served in the intelligence bureau ???

this was a surprise announcement can anyone shed some light on it??
It was almost certain that Gen Raheel wanted to promote a Maj General to the post of DG-ISI. It was sure that both Government as well as COAS would like to see an apolitical personality on the post. I was told by one of my friend in close contacts with the government that Gen Butt was the choice of NS after consultations with not only other parties but also persons from media (For the first time in Pakistan). Butt also possessed prior experience of intel ops, which was crucial since Gen Raheel doesn't posses any experience of Intel Ops. But Nawaz having already appointing another butt for DG-ISI previously (Gen Zia ud din Butt), the decision was certain to attract some irk and affirmed the perception that Nawaz only promotes butts and sharifs generals to key posts. So Lt.Gen Rizwan is the last day change after meeting with the army chief and thus going for Rizwan. However, one of Rizwan's key strengths is that he can work in coordination with civilian security infrastructure which may pave a way for ISI opening up to the idea of dysfunctional Joint Intelligent Bureau envisaged by Chaudry Nisar.

But having said this, it might have a silver lining.

If he was the least competent of the lot then he wouldn't have made it to promotion panel in the first place.
