anyone who will be directly effected by the decisions of the Leadership is a Stakeholder - in otherwords, you and i are stakeholders, and keeping us on board is their duty - but then there are certain decisions are to be kept away from stakeholders- and this is one of those cases ---

In general, yes we all are stakeholders as a citizen of this country but national security is a different and sensitive matter and should not be discussed openly. My only concern was involvement of certain media personalities in security decision matters. It might set a bad trend in future.

i sure hope so b/c its need of the hour

in USA of the 1930s, critical main cities like Chicago and New York had problem of mafia, gangs and criminal underworld. Caused disruption to law and order situation and the economy - but they got their acts together and there was also major police reform. That's what we need in Karachi. But law enforcement needs to be allowed to do its job.

i hope there will be pressure from the security circles to NOT allow political party people to engage in criminal acts

Pakistan army appoints Rizwan Akhtar as ISI spy chief

Rizwan Akhtar has experience battling the criminal gangs of Karachi as well as the militants of the north-west

Pakistan's army has named a new head of the country's feared spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Rizwan Akhtar was promoted from major-general to lieutenant-general to assume the new role and is considered an ally of army chief Gen Raheel Sharif.

As head of the paramilitary Rangers force in the southern city of Karachi he launched a major operation against criminal gangs and Taliban militants.

He replaces Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam who is scheduled to retire in October.

The BBC's Shahzeb Jillani says the outgoing ISI chief is widely seen to have been at odds with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, with some even accusing him of encouraging recent protests against the government.

The military also promoted five other officers to lieutenant general rank to replace outgoing personnel.

The appointments are expected to help the latter consolidate his position, our correspondent says.

Although Pakistan saw its first democratic civilian transfer of power last year, the country has been ruled by the army for much of its history.

The ISI was established in 1948 - as Pakistan engaged India in the first war over Kashmir - and became the primary institution running the intelligence operations of the army, air force and navy.

Analysts say that although its precise machinations have remained shadowy, there is little doubt it has played a major role in Pakistan's volatile politics.

Rizwan Akhtar's operation to reduce crime levels in Karachi received a lot of publicity but human rights activists also warned of violations.

Between 2007 and 2010, he was posted in the South Waziristan tribal region where Pakistan Taliban militants are known to have sheltered.

"He is a professional soldier who has experience of both Fata and internal security in Karachi," an army official told the Dawn newspaper.

Oh....this means tht he is not one of those more anti Indian generals as I had hoped... .....As DG ISI...one hopes to have an anti Indian general in place, not other way round... With extremely Pro Indian PM like Nawaz Sharif, even if we have such a general in place as DG ISI....then God help us......... I didnt like this thing much

Having a soft spot for India does not mean he will not be chasung down indian funded terror groups in Pakistan - infact it is a good tthing, before going across the border, lets clean up the yahoos on this side of the border and once hisbtenure is complete and new chief is in place, we can think about pro y wars across border....

Its not only in Pakistan, tht we have to chase Indian funded terror grosups..what abt Afghanistan?It will be in his tenure as ISI chief.....tht real end game is in Afgh, where we will hve to counter Indian influence in Afghanistan... And then we will hv an ISI chief having soft corner for India? very bad situation to be in....
But i am surprised...bcoz Gen Raheel Sharif doesnt come across as a COAS having any soft corner for India.. remember...on Martyrs day this yr, how Gen Raheel Sharif talked abt Kashmir so vocally.... Although none talked abt Kashmir like tht on Martyrs day before, it was mostly related to terrorism but Gen Raheel Sharif said tht kashmir is our juglar vein there... And then its surprising.....that how he chose an ISI chief having a soft corner for India? It means... Gen kiyani proved more smart in choosing ISI chiefs than Gen Raheel... kiyani chose Gen Pasha and Gen Zaheer who ended up being very good ISI chiefs
