"Forced to hang my head in shame": Former Navy chief writes open letter to President Mukherjee, PM M

Our policies have left few well wishers for muslims so I would like to thank those who are advocating our interests like Joe Shearer. However I would like to present where my views come from. I want to start with the basic fact that Hinduism is a beautiful religion. My second book speaks of an honorable fire worshiping race (with concepts such as karma and cremation) and clearly some aspects of these peoples come from todays Hindus. I have no, none whatsoever, hatred for Hindus. I mean we live perfectly well together in Canada Australia and other countries so what is our problem.

I will tell you where the problem comes from.

Now for some more bitter truths. In India a muslim is a second class citizen. This is something you have to admit or accept if we are going to move further. I knew a person, perhaps 2 persons if I can prove it who were killed by Indians-Hindutva ideology holding people and others who were injured. I have also worked with people who have lost their loved ones to Indian intolerance. Now bear with me.

When a person loses something, or someone... he never forgives the people who did it. We can try to rise above this hatred if you call it that but the water that was sweet has been poisoned. No matter what you do you cannot bring your dead loved ones back and there is a wicked response usually. Some display this response by breaking idols and abusing hindus. Others don't do any of that and have a very strong dislike for the people who did this to their loved ones. Others move to Pakistan-a safe haven if one exists. For us it was Pakistan. Anyway. All of them want one thing. Justice? Was justice given to the Gujarat riots victims? The Mumbai riots victims? It was also not given to these people.

No one, neither the Lucknow independence movement, Movement for Awadh, Azad Deccan Council got that justice. The perpetrators hanged would have done a lot. But this wasn't done. Modi Tytler all sit sipping expensive tea while they have blood of muslims. This is a fact.

No matter how we say it it does not change the fact that there is a severe reaction to oppression by most people. Why don't the Palestinians stop killing Israelis. The Israelis will kill 100 more for 1 israeli killed. But they fight anyway. This is the nature of man. But all do not fight with weapons. We fight by creating independence movements and vouching for independence or Pakistan. You may show your arrogance here and say they shouldn't... but the question is what would you do if you lost family members to India?

There is a very strong logic and ideology behind those who are seeking complete independence from India or merger with Pakistan. Calling me a Pakistani which truly I am, will not change the fact that I am working with allies who are indigenous and many have lost family members. One of the cases I have often pointed to is the death of several muslims in Hyderabad outside the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The victims families when they brought the case to the attention of judges and lawyers instead of being provided justice they were told to go to Pakistan. They did that and according to some Indians, as my family did the same, I have no stake left in Lucknow. This is a fallacy and canard.

People never leave their homes until they are forced to. It takes severe persecution for this to happen. So why is it so hard for Indians to admit that the muslims are a persecuted people? Yet instead of accepting this the focus is on suckularism, ghar wapsi and temple money going to mosques. No one really cares or knows what the muslims go through daily-even patriotic muslims. Ask any muslim and he will tell you he was asked to go to Pakistan or was denied sale of property for being a muslim. There are many cases. So instead of looking at it as hey "the muslims are playing the victim card and demanding extra rights" look at it as what have they really gone through since the inception of India.

Still i say India can be saved. When you have time think about the communal policies of Modi critically. Should a man blamed for severe violence and by muslims as the proigniter of Hindu Muslim hatred be a PM of a secular state? What message does that give? These are some bitter truths but if the Hindus rise up and realize that what it is to be a muslim in India then things can be salvaged.

The state is not sickular my friend. That is the Hindutva putting it that way to grab even more rights than they have. The truth hurts. This post is meant to be a bitter pill. No offense intended but the truth does hurt.

:disagree: I went to regular villages. Regular villages. Where Indians reside. I did not ask their religion, I admit that. :agree:

In any case, what anxiety do you expect them to have?

Come on man,,this discussion is getting funny now.We already know what the other is gonna answer.:coffee:

.
And India is a large country so if i start to narrate such incidents in India then worriedly they are on higher side as compared to 2014..

And that is what exactly ratio means. With 1/6th of Planets population we will also have 1/6th of the Planet's problem.

.
Are they getting a secure environment??
I don't think so and neither does any minority.

I challenge u to ask any practicing sikh, muslim or a christian this question.
I am out as i don't follow a religion.

It does not matter what u think but what the other 20% are thinking. And trust me the levels of distrust were never higher.

Sadly there is no cure for this hate now,,too freaking late.

If you say so.

But you gotto ask, who is responsible for this so called "mistrust". Is the government really responsible for it, or is it the concerted media campaign?

Don't add to this hysteria, have some faith in your country, you give up too easily.

.
As i said we were never secular. But after 2014 people have assumed there is a hindu government at centre so they are coming out in the open.

A 14 year old hindu girl was kidnapped, raped for over 2 months and then converted to Islam. No media channel had the balls to report about it on main stream media. On top of that we have politicians and media people suggesting that the girl eloped and married a 35 year old man. who raised voice for her?

. .
Honourable President and Honourable Prime Minister,
It is with a heavy heart, that I write this open letter to you at a time when our beloved country and people are facing severe challenges and threats to our shared heritage.
I have served in the Armed Forces of India - joining soon after Independence as a 14 year old, to end up 45 years later Chief of the Indian Navy [1990 to 1993] I have witnessed many transitions in India - from the horrors of partition in 1947 to the very different world of digital connectivity that we see today.
I also write to you as one who was brought up in the Hindu faith. However, the Hinduism I knew and experienced was gentle, inclusive, and filled with extraordinary diversity. My religion taught me values of love and respect for all beings. My brand of Hinduism was not filled with the kind of violence, intolerance represented by the current brand of "Hindutva" that seems to be fanning the flames of division and fear across the country.
Today, as a veteran in my eighties, I am forced to hang my head in shame as I witness a series of incidents and assaults on our fellow citizens, especially minorities and Dalits. Our armed forces which I have had the honour to serve for 45 years, have been an exemplar of India's secular ethos. Be it in ships and submarines, or in planes and battle formations, we do not discriminate on the basis of caste or religion - we train, we fight, we live, we eat and we die together.
So why are we bearing witness to increasing attacks on minorities across the country, ever since the present government came to power in May 2014? It appears that certain communities are being singled out for special attention - for instance Muslims. Today a Muslim has to prove his or her loyalty, and they are being repeatedly put in a situation where their places of worship are under attack, as indeed their eating habits, and other basic freedoms. The instances of completely unacceptable and unilateral mob behaviour leading to many deaths as well as direct insinuations being made by senior leaders, are too numerous and well known to be repeated.
There seems to be a systematic and well orchestrated attempt to impose a majoritarian single point agenda of creating a Hindu Rashtra in India - led by the RSS and their network of groups, which is disturbing to say the least. This in turn has resulted in a dangerous pattern of mob behaviour including intimidating and lynching people merely on the basis of rumours - in total disregard for the established rule of law. In many cases those responsible for implementing the law, have themselves displayed blatant partisan tendencies and behaviour.
Most shocking of all is the fact there has been no unambiguous condemnation of such actions and behaviour by those at the helm of affairs in the country. Sadly, time and time again, the response of the government seems to indicate an almost studied, but certainly not benign, indifference. The co-ordinated response of those in government seems to be to downplay the serious and vicious nature of these allegations and attacks - by terming them 'sad' and 'unfortunate' - whereas there should be outrage and a demonstrated will to ensure that this society will not tolerate such behaviour. That there are MPs, Cabinet ministers and elected Chief Ministers who are in the forefront of these comments and actions, leads one to believe that the ruling party and its satellite organisations are working to a plan.
I do not need to point out to the top leadership today, that this is playing with fire in a nation where minorities - especially Muslims and Christians, as also Dalits and adivasis, are already feeling discriminated and marginalised. Instead of treating this amazing diversity as our strength, today we are being seen by the international community as increasingly insular, parochial, intolerant, racist and even fascist. The violence visited upon vulnerable sections reinforces the image of India as an imperfect democracy where all forms of dissent are discouraged and human rights trampled upon with impunity.
The Prime Minister and his ministers in the government are sworn in by the President of India, and they take an oath pledging to uphold the Indian Constitution. Their failure to do so, as evidenced in the foregoing, is a serious matter and does not augur well either for national security or national integrity. The Central and State Governments must act swiftly, unequivocally condemn all such incidents and ensure that justice will be done and the guilty are punished. Such action alone will have a salutary deterrent effect on all those, be they fringe or mainstream, who are speaking and acting in many voices that are totally against and inimical to, our traditional ethos and the syncretic culture of our country and its people.

India represents a unique blend of peoples and cultures which have evolved over 5000 plus years in a constantly changing and dynamic process. This diversity and unique nature of our society and people can probably never be replicated anywhere on this earth - and for this reason alone, the concept of a single religious identity or mono culture represents an insult to this ancient civilisational heritage.
Honourable Mr President, Honourable Mr Prime Minister, you have both sworn to honour the right of every single citizen to freedom of speech, worship, association as brilliantly articulated in the Indian Constitution. As a former serviceman and a veteran, like you, I too have promised to uphold the same constitution. It is our bounden duty that the elected Government of this nation must honour the rights of every citizen of this land as amply spelled out in the Preamble of the Constitution and further elaborated in the Directive Principles of state policy. As Supreme Commander and the Chief Executive - this is what you must ensure and implement by all the powers vested in you by the people of India.
If we do not stem the rot now - it might be too late. Indeed we the people of India look to you to take all steps necessary to restore faith in our democracy and in the promise of bringing dignity, fraternity and equality to each of our citizens.

First the Pakistanis send a bunch of Islamist yahoos to kill dozens of Indians, and then they send their diplomats to tell us that it was India's fault all along and we deserved it? And the leftists expect us to take this line of thinking hook line and sinker?

We got to stop being so naive and look at the bigger picture.
Shhh..... Hindus are supposed to bow and get put in their place.

moderate some centuries ago is constantly acting like an organized ogre bent on destroying anyone who does not live by their standards and rules
I wonder who started that trend.

.
If you say so.

But you gotto ask, who is responsible for this so called "mistrust". Is the government really responsible for it, or is it the concerted media campaign?

Nope government is not and neither is media.
Thats all propaganda,,its squarely due to divisions on the ground and these divisions are not created by bjp all ofsudden.

No,they existed for centuries but rss/bjp are acting as a catalyst to take this to a whole new level and are trying to call an eye for an eye.In other words trying to compete with other communities and nations in intolerance index and are actually moving up quite fast.

Problem is we have 200 crore of these other people whom RSS etc are trying to tame and its just not possible. Its a futile effort which will lead bjp to victories but will fracture what was already a cracked india.

What guarantee is they will stop at this?
What if they ban alcohal tomorrow? What if they start implementing whats written in vedas tomorrow??

This is all a possibility,,,people of india are stupid and gullible already and could be easily moulded in any direction.

That is jiziya and 100% legal in Secular India

. .
well,we also have many clear rules and there are halaal and haraam things but not so strict that one will get punished severely.

The broad idea is to make a person understand why he/she does x/y/z instead of doing it blindly.

Atheism/Agnosticism and all are fine but if it is genuine, being atheist because it is cool generally has poor consequences for self and society.

We are indeed not a political party like christianity or hinduism but we are not as loose and scattered as you imagine.
I don't imagine anything, I'm just trying to demystify this whole "hindu terror" thing that some of our 'imminent intellectuals' have been trying to highlight.

Atheism, as practiced in the west, is prone to fundamentalism too..

who is this "We" you speak of ?

and Christianity and Hinduism are political parties ? wut ? o_O

. . .
Whats wrong here?
It is a truth that muslims are more rigid that other religions,,,does that mean we start competing with them??

Seriously?

What do u think will happen? It will be counter productive making them even more hateful and aloof.
Plus the hindu society that could have been called moderate some centuries ago is constantly acting like an organized ogre bent on destroying anyone who does not live by their standards and rules.

I mean i may be killed tomorrow if found eating beef for god's sake.It makes me shiver in fear.

It is the need of hour..Muslims need to be made role model every non-muslims. Do to them what they do to others. What you want is hindus to bend even more...ahm...looks like Kashmiri pundits were not moderate enough...

You are so far from reality...you probably know that.
