What's new

First prototype of 105mm Light Howitser revealed

Panter weight: 18,000 kg
M777 weight: 3,420 kg

Weight of the M777 enables it to be deployed by helicopters...like blackhawk.
M777 was at 3400 kg at first. But got some fat when it finished. Now it's around 4400 kg. So it is not air-deployable with Black Hawk, but larger.

While there are many precision weapons is it still critical to air-ferry such classical cannons to the battlefield. Is it only because ammunition is cheaper or what?

Technology and economies aren't developed enough to make everything precision guided.

What I mean is when you have (or the U.S. has) laser guided rockets that can hit the target with just one round what advantage does a Howitzer have that they bother to air ferry such a heavy weapon to the battlefield. Or is it just psychological, for the sound of it pounding enemy lines. "Inler zaferin teranesiyle coşkun sesi bir topun, derinden derine."

how many years has it been and its still in development?

Howitser can also fire (semi)guided rockets/shells. Howitsers are extremely effective for Area of effect, pounding an enemy mercilessly both litteraly and mentaly. What you said is more for precision, which has its benefits for the right moment and the right target.

Good work Turkey. Pakistan would also be interested, due in part to the sheer mountainous terrain we have. Light artillery would be of great benefit to our troops at high altitudes.

Since 2009 and the project exceeded the deadline allready. It should have completed in the end of this year but still in prototype phase.

What do you expect from people who wear terliks working heavy machinery..

What is your point dude? Don't you see what slipper people are capable of doing? Astro Teller is a guy who only does things that are world changing and no less.
Its just extremely stupid not to wear safety boots in a workshop, just drop a 5 kg piece on you toe and you will loose it, not to mention heavier things that might tear apart your whole feet...

That's common sense. However that same guy who is wearing the slippers is also wearing hand gloves. Seems like he actually cares for his wellbeing. Probably in that particular situation he doesn't need protection for his feet or he is exempted from using protected shoes for some reason. I would think people know their job better than some outsiders, save for the Tuzla dock workers that kept getting killed every now and then until a couple years ago.
