What's new

First confirmed photos of the J-16 released

This is good and i hope more pictures will come out in coming days but i am little disappointed because J-16 is not stealth. :P
Don't waste time with Indians trolls in last five years we have seen so many types of fighter and trainee aircraft produced in China while India is struggling with their master piece LCA Tejos from last 30 years.
when i said i have a bike , my stupid neighbor who dont even have cycle replied that so what , my friend has car .

Anyway, this system works well enough for us too.;)
Pakistani's remain satisfied with their below par products in hope of superior products from their all-weather friends and keep away from western maal.
actually india buzzs so much of their products that we have to over estimate them..
and by the way india doesnt have any idegenous projects that we have to worry about, they are either Russians or westerns, part from their LCA, of which we dont know whats going to happen

If its Russian or western ... no need to worry??? Are they bad???

what will be the role of J-16 in PLAAF. i wounder.
i thought the J-11 would be enough for strike missions. doesnt it seems odd to induct so many plate forms, when their main adversery USA and india are moving towards fifth generation platforms

i was hoping they would try to do something like B2, or F-35 to meet their heavy bombers and light stealth aircrft to complement j-20

nope, what i meant that most of their capabilities are known..either to china(for russians) or to most countries in whom they are in service, we were talking about the BUZzes.

everybody with google knows the capabilities and specs..

The J-16 is a strike fighter developed from the 4.5 generation J-11BS. Apart from the original features on the J-11B such as radar absorbent material, composites, AESA, powerful engines, IRST, MAWS, etc, the J-16 also includes longer range and a greater weapon capacity. A sting like the Su-34 may also be seen.

Maybe Pic is Photoshoped Su34 who knows. I wonder why they release pics and those pics are not clear ? :what: Cameras wont work ?

what sorcery is this ??????

Anyways Good-luck neighbor, Chinese scientist are working hard. ....it will pay off soon

China already has a heavy stealth fighter J-20, a light stealth fighter J-21 and a stealth bomber H-9 (no public photos yet). The J-16 is like F-15E and Su-34 a strike aircraft that is less expensive than a strategic bomber and can be deployed in large numbers. At 4000 km combat radius it can reach all of our adversaries except the continental USA. In short, a very worthy successor to workhorse JH-7A.

Sino, which "light steath fighter J-21" you refer to?

never heard of J-21 and H 9 yet. but that would be great for PLAAF if its going on.
what i meant that wasnt J-11 already there, why need J-16.?

IMO it's the same question why need Su-34 while already have Su-27.

Agreed with Sino, J-16 is relatively (much) more economical compared to 5th gen can be mass-produced , as no country could afford a massive 5th gen arsenal.

It will have much improved capabilities than the current JH-7 line, too.

With J-11B, J-16, J-10A/B, J-20, and possiblely (?) a J-21 light version and strategic H-9, PLA

mirrors closely those of USAF of F-15s, F-16s, F-22, F-35 and B2. And yes, top economies

such as US and China can afford varies specialised warplanes at the same time.

One of the major cons I see is that certain sectors of Russia and many defence forums would be yelling "un-licenced copies" allover again...

I wish SAC could be much more creative in creating new lines of Sinoflankers, though... acutally, I am sicken tired of Flankers, I think it's time for SAC to grow a pair and try to create something of thier own:lol:

are you mad? 4000 KM radius is more than most of the bombers!!

Okay, i don't want to sound too noob here, but what is the tail boom for on the flankers?

Those are extra avionics, most likely for ECM or EW. Hopefully it might be a rear facing radar.

stealth bomber H-9

not so fast; the last time i heard a military insider said the bomber would be released no sooner than 2016

J-16 will take the role of "Strike Fighter". The primary mission of a strike fighter is to attack ground and marine target with air to ground missiles, anti-ships missiles or bombs. It also has the air to air capability when carry air to air missiles.

Normally a strike fighter will not go for air to air fights unless it is intercepted by enemy fighter, or after it has dropped all its air to ground ordnance and not burden with weights of these air-ground weapons.

In contrast SU-27 and J-11 are wired for air to air fights thus their designation as "Air Superiority Fighters". Their ground attack capabilities are limited, mainly by the lack of dedicated ground attack avionics and second pilot acting as weapon officer and in some cases their lighter maximum weapon load annd combat range.

In contrast to general view J-11BS is not a strike fighter though it has 2 seats. It is mainly a pilot conversion fighter, its role is to convert a pilot (who may have long experience with other aircraft type or may be not) who is not familiar with J-11B.
