ISLAMABAD: An FIR against Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz was lodged at the Aabpara police station on Friday, three hours after protesters had gathered outside it.

The FIR was lodged under Section 506 (II) of the PPC, against criminal intimidation.

A large crowd had gathered outside Lal Masjid on Friday evening, following on from a similar vigil on Thursday evening. Soon they were joined by political leaders including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Senator Tahir Hussain Mashadi, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Nafeesa Shah, Awami National Party’s (ANP) Bushra Gohar and Acting President of National Party Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo.

As the crowd outside Lal Masjid swelled, they moved towards the Aabpara police station. Officials stopped them from entering the station but an application for registering an FIR against Maulana Aziz was filed. The protesters camped outside the police station, refusing to disperse till the report was registered.

Heavy contingents of police, some in riot gear, were deployed outside the station to avoid any untoward incident.

Earlier on Friday, Nasir put forth his charter of demands and explained why he was leading protest.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the independent candidate who contested elections from the NA-250 constituency claimed he is protesting to ‘reclaim our mosques back from extremists.’

“Maulana Abdul Aziz lives in the heart of Islamabad and has been allowed to validate the extremist narrative for a decade now,” Nasir said.

“We should never forget,” Nasir urged sternly, adding, the sacrifices of Peshawar should never be erased from our memories and we should stand up and take action against the extremists.

Urging all arm-chair activists to stand up, Nasir said the blame lies on every citizen’s head, “The children who were killed in Peshawar, you and I have killed them. When in Hangu, a suicide bomber was entering the school and Aitzaz Hasan saved them, did we not know students are on the hit-list of Taliban?”

Through a powerful video posted on his Facebook page, Nasir said the reason for the protest is simple and even if the police tries to cordon them off, they will not create violence but will not be stopped either.

“Our chants will be so loud, they’ll be heard till Lal Masjid,” he said.

Concluding his video, Nasir said, “We demand justice and request all political parties to stand up with us to send a message: We will not forget.”

Seminary students also protest

After members of civil society had held a vigil outside Lal Masjid on Thursday evening, a large number of students from the seminary and its affiliate madrassas held a protest rally against civil society activists, as well as the Peshawar carnage after Friday prayers in Islamabad.

While addressing the charged gathering, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) spokesperson Maulana Abdul Rehman Moavia said that students of Lal Masjid had gathered to condemn the Peshawar attack but there is also the need for condemning drone attacks.

“We should also condemn Bajaur and Hangu drone attacks, which left 14 children dead,” he said. “Why the people have not reprimanded Lal Masjid massacre in the same way, he asked.

He warned civil society members that if they tried to launch a protest in front of the mosque, they will have to face severe resistance from the students of the mosque.

After 67 years of clerical 'parallel' rule in Pakistan; Pakistani civil society, politicians and defence establishment is finally waking up to the fact that real cancer of this country were never harmless religious minorities such as Qadianis, Baha'is, Christians, Hindus, Shiites etc but the Salafi-Wahhabi-DeoBandi (Sunni) axis of evil! Its exactly the right time to forcibly remove every madrassa educated cleric from our mosques and replace them with university educated religious scholars. Its the ONLY way to get rid of ignorance and bigotry from Pakistani society at large!

true words.

“Our chants will be so loud, they’ll be heard till Lal Masjid,” he said.

good choice of words... simple and direct.

While addressing the charged gathering, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) spokesperson Maulana Abdul Rehman Moavia said that students of Lal Masjid had gathered to condemn the Peshawar attack but there is also the need for condemning drone attacks.

rassi jal gayi par bal nahi gaya...

these deobandi/tableeghi types are a cancer for the muslim world... and they try to be more arab than the arabs... and it is not to be ignored that the deoband mullah school was initially founded and funded by the british east india company... mainly i suppose to prevent another muslim great like tipu sultan from achieving power... the britishers thought... "oh, let these muslims become lost in prayers... their path in the one from home to mosque and back... theirs is not to be the path of progress"... no munafik group has destroyed islam as hard as the munafiks from south asia ( deoband and tableeghi jamaat )... and that was how the muslim inheritors of al-andalus and "the islamic golden age" lost their progress for years and in most societies are losing until now.

"bhaag burqa bhaag"...

The protests by ordinary citizens against Mullah Burqah should be a big news and worthy of praise and attention everywhere! The Lal Masjid fanatics have thugs and violent people to help their fanaticism and yet these brave people are protesting out in public.
Bravo! I wish them success. Mullah Burqah and his Lal Masjid goons are just as dangerous for Pakistan as any KK bearing Taliban terrorist; they all need to be eliminated. Strike while the iron is hot.

.
during zardari time, this mulla was honorably discharged from courts and ex CoAS was nominated as criminal.
Court summons Musharraf over Lal Masjid cleric murder case – The Express Tribune
I also remember there was lot of political pressure & Hamid Mir columns, selling this mulla as victim of army dictator.
Until recently, Pervez Musharraf was blamed in every talk show for the military operation & thereof illegal arrest of same mulla, now what about those videos? How govt. will get rid of those videos?

. . .
anp ppp mqm supporting the protest!!!
if it was pti , there would have been millions of protesters..

Excellent points! It's never too late to take on the terror mafia which has been ruling most of Pakistan for decades with their vile interpretation of Islam.

Secondly, the government must stop the massive funds flowing in from the Middle East especially Saudi Arabia which is the world's largest source of funds for Salafi jehadist terrorist groups such as al Qaeda, the Afghan Taliban, the TTP, ISIS, LeT and JeM in South Asia. Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide.

Unless this funding is stopped, there would be no end to terror and the mushrooming of hundreds of madrasas in Pakistan which are nothing but jehad assembly lines. Pakistan needs to tackle the root of the problem not just carry out cosmetic surgery. The jihad factories need to be shut permanently.

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid has blamed two persons for whipping up the furore over his remark that the massacre of schoolchildren in Peshawar was a “reaction” to the military operation against militants.

“This campaign against me is a conspiracy hatched by Amin Shaheedi and Faisal Raza Abidi,” he told the Friday congregation, adding that “I warn that they are testing our patience”.

Journalist Raza Bangash, who was among the mediapersons covering the event, told Dawn that the maulana “also remarked that people who had gone astray construed his opinion as a confessional statement”.

Maulana Amin Shaheedi and Raza Abidi, whom Maulana Aziz accused of fanning public sentiments against him, are, respectively, leader of Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM – Unity of Muslims Council) and a former PPP senator.

Many congregation members and Raza said Maulana Aziz criticised the members of civil society who protested his views outside the Lal Masjid the previous day and had planned more protests on Friday evening against him equating the victims of terrorism and those killed for terrorism.

Maulana Aziz poured sarcasm on the civil society people demonstrating and lighting candles for the Peshawar dead and said they should also have felt pain for the 86 madressah students killed in Waziristan and other deaths in military operations.

“My brother, his family and many people dear to me and a large number of students were killed in army operation here (in Lal Masjid in 2007), but I did not raise such hue and cry,” he said.

Maulana Aziz suggested to the military and political leadership to negotiate peace with the Taliban, ostensibly for a more worthy cause.

“They too are Pakistanis,” he said. “I suggest that a united force of Pak army and Taliban should be established to fight the infidels.”

In his sermon, he said there were no differences between the Taliban of Afghanistan and those in Pakistan. They are like brothers.

After the Friday congregation was over, members of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), the reincarnation of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan group, demonstrated in support for Maulana Abdul Aziz and against the killing of schoolchildren in Peshawar.

Later Hafiz Ehtesham Ahmed, spokesman for Shuhada Foundation of Lal Masjid, thanked the ASWJ for its support.

“Maulana Abdul Aziz is an asset to the whole Islamic world
and we will not tolerate any move to harm him,” he said in a statement on behalf of the foundation.

A security official, who monitored his Friday sermon inside the mosque, said the maulana hurled direct threats to the administration.

“He stated that any attempt to harm him or arrest him would lead to an uncontrollable situation in the country,” the official told Dawn.

According to him, the maulana said: “If I am arrested the administration will not be able to control the protest rallies all over Pakistan. And if they kill me then there would be so many suicide attacks that would surpass the reaction that followed death of my brother Ghazi Abdur Rashid.”

On the other hand talking to Dawn, MWM leader Amin Shaheedi laughed off the statement given by khateeb of Lal Masjid, and said that maulana was a mature person and he should know what to speak.

“His statements have hurt every Pakistani and they are expressing their dislike. What this has to do with me,” Amin Shaheedi said.

An infuriated Faisal Raza Abidi said anyone justifying the massacre of schoolchildren should be ashamed of himself.

“We are with the army against these terrorists and inhuman elements. I have the feeling that the maulana is preparing to flee in a burka again,” he said.
