PESHAWAR - Mullah Fazlullah’s selection as the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief has caused rifts among the TTP ranks.

In a bid to overcome such rifts, Fazlullah alias Mullah Radio had replaced close aides of slain TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud with his own men. As a result of such steps, militants from Mehsud and Bhittani tribe are being cornered. Mullah Radio fears serious threats to his life.

Sources told Pakistan Today that Mullah Fazlullah has announced to establish his headquarters in Dir. This decision could add to the woes of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. Dir is the hometown of Mullah Radio’s father-in-law Sufi Muhammad, head of the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e- Muhammadi (TNSM).

According to sources, Asmatullah Bhittani, also known as Asmatullah Shaheen, has been replaced by Khalid Haqqani as Shura head. Whereas Said Khan Sajna, successor of Waliur Rahman was replaced by Sheheryar Mehsud. Sheheryar is said to be an archrival of both Waliur Rahman and Hakimullah Mehsud.

Sources said Fazlullah had told militants that both appointments were temporary and were likely to be reviewed in the shura meeting shortly.

Shaheen was a close aide of Abdullah Mehsud who was killed in a military action in Zhob Baluchistan couple of years back.

The militants unhappy with the selection of Fazlullah as new TTP chief are reaching the armed forces and its secret agencies.

Asmat Ullah Muavia, chief of the Punjabi Taliban, is in understanding with security forces. The Punjabi Taliban militants are sharing their domain with government-loyal militants like Hafiz Gul Bahadar in North Waziristan and Mullah Nazir in South Waziristan.

It is believed that Adnan Rashid has developed differences with militants loyal to Hakimullah Mehsud as he is said to be a close aide of Fazlullah.

The militants from the Mehsud tribe believe that the Haqqani network was behind the drone strike which killed Hakimullah Mehsud.

Differences have also developed between the TTP and the Afghan Taliban soon after Mullah Radio’s induction as the TTP chief.

It is premature to call it rift at this stage ..... appointment of Fazalullah as chief of TTP is not received well in Meshud tribe for the obvious reasons .....as of now Meshud tribe have no other way or opportunity available other than TTP, therefore they may reduce their level of activities, but would remain associated with TTP in a hope that 'sooner or later they will again get leadership of TTP' .....

Dont worry as long as he is willing to Fight Pakistan , He will NEVER be targeted in a Drone Strike ( Unless it is Pakistani Drone ) , However if he walks on the steps of Dead Leader & ever thought of giving up or starting peace talks Then Yes .. He probably wont survive even 2 weeks before USA kills him & brings another one of their stooges .

Pakistan needs to continue supporting Pro-Government elements against the terrorist. we should play them against each other and then bring in Pro-govt. elements in a leadership role in the Fata area and get their help so we can develop Fata area i.e. build roads , communications, Schools, Hospitals or at least Clinics etc.

Development and Jobs are the key elements that will destroy the terrorist. Let us spend money on development in that area rather than spending the same resources in fighting terrorism. When people don't have a job and have miserable lives it is easy for them to turn towards terrorism.

Let us make Fata people proud to be Pakistanis and they will defend their territory against the Foreign agents of our neighbouring friends from Afghanistan and India.

I am hoping Sajna becomes leader it is being said he is most in favor of talks

According to a Combating Terrorism Center report:

An experienced fighter, Khan Said is considered extreme when it comes to his ideological and tactical orientations. Unlike Rahman, who tended to pursue a more “middle path,” Khan Said has been called “merciless,” an accusation that grew from a comment he made in which he said he would kill four people for every one Taliban fighter killed.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal:

The TTP's relatively more moderate faction is led by Khan Said, known as Sajna, the group's leader in South Waziristan who was initially tapped as Mr. Mehsud's successor. At the subsequent gathering of Taliban leadership that chose Mr. Fazlullah, "Sajna did not say anything, he just kept quiet," one person familiar with the meeting's details said.

Since then, some Taliban militants said, Pakistani authorities seem to have been backing his faction, especially as internecine violence flared in Karachi's Pashtun shantytowns.

"They want to eliminate the Hakimullah group in Karachi," one midlevel commander said.

Azam Tariq, the spokesman for Mr. Said, the leader in South Waziristan, also said all militants accept Mr. Fazlullah's leadership.

But midlevel and senior TTP commanders in Karachi and North Waziristan said the rivalry between Messrs. Said and Mehsud over strategy had emerged in the days before the assassination, with Mr. Said calling for a more pragmatic line.

The Pakistani government has strongly condemned the Nov. 1 drone strike that killed Mr. Mehsud, saying it had been on the verge of opening peace talks. In reality, some Taliban commanders said, it was only members of Mr. Said's wing that participated in that outreach.

And now Fazlullah is replacing TTP commanders with his own men.

Conclusion: No chance for Khan Said Sajna to become TTP chief.

Lisa Lundquist.

The only Rift currently is with the Punjabi Taliban.
But the rift between Punjabi Talibs & TTP existed since HM's times & has nothing to do with Fazlullah.

BTW acc. SITE intel & flashpoint intel and as well as Ansar1.info & Jamia Hafsa Urdu forum 2 leading Jihadist websites a potential rivalry was avoided as Sajna Mehsud voluntarilyagreed not to vie for TTP Emir to preserve unity.

Also I hope you remember how Pak govt. spread lies about Mehsud being killed in a gunfight with Wali ur Rehman in 2010,only to be left with eggs on the face a HM & Wali appeared together in a video soon.

there can be no rift in the TTP since they are run by WAD and RAW so there is no chance of rift.....
