In India, a lot of people go to each others holy places and celebrate festivals together. Not uncommon at all for Hindus, Sikhs etc to visit dargahs, or to keep a christmas tree and play santa for the kids, or go to Sikh gurudwaras... not wholly uncommon for muslims to play holi and enjoy diwali, not uncommon for everyone to gather at Iftar, some muslim women will even fast of karva chauth.

We don't want any of this "kill them wherever you see them" ISIS mentality here.

Aarti means nothing, one can have faith or just go about going through the motions without being "religious". As a non religious person, I did aarti on Diwali, why not, may the gods bless us with prosperity and peace, we were cracking jokes about when god will 'chappar faad' ke give, pls gib some, Mr bhagwan ji !

Its just a cultural thing, and its beautiful, and its been going on for 1000s of years, nobody is forcefully converting muslims if they choose to take part in some random ritual, doesn't make them any less muslim afaic, only the zealot isis minded mullahs have a problem.

Deoband school is hardly a place that was at the forefront of Muslim-majority progressive movements. What I wrote was a response to part of the OP.

Name one person from Deoband of the likes of Jamal Abdul Nasser or Muammar Gaddafi.
