Failed Attack: Villagers Near Balakot Say Indian Warplanes Missed Jaish-Run Madrasa By A Kilometre

man i have indians here too... just on last Tuesday, Sikh community arranged a 'langer', when we entered they didn't even greet us but all other Chinese and Europeans... Indians didn't sit next to us in class (or bcz they came late and sit on back bench).. now I have to greet my senior who is also indian, as nothing happened :(....

Why are you surprised by the Sikhs behavior don't you know what happened in Pulwama last week?

Brother, I honestly believes that the dislikes that Pakistan earns all over the world is avoidable. Some rethinking by your real lead ers (pak army) is needed.

Google Maps looks that way. You tell me what the distance between Indian kashmir to balakot is.
don't think anyone here knows that in kilometers.. if the jets entered over uri and came back over sonmarg, then this was quiet a trip... but guess we will never know, in the rhetoric.

From what villagers could see, the Indian attack had missed its target as the bombs dropped exploded about a kilometre away from the madrasa.

BALAKOT, Pakistan — Villagers near the town of Balakot in northeast Pakistanwere shaken out of their sleep by what seemed like an earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday, only discovering once dawn broke that there had been an Indian airstrike on their neighbourhood.

Indian officials said the raid destroyed a training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed, the militant group behind a suicide attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 40 members of a paramilitary police force on Feb. 14. India’s foreign secretary said “a very large number of JEM terrorists” had been eliminated in what was the first Indian air strike on Pakistani territory since 1971.

The villagers, however, said only one person was wounded in the attack and they knew of no fatalities.

A resident, who did not want to give his name, said there was a nearby madrasa run by Jaish, though most villagers were guarded talking about their militant neighbours.

“There is this madrasa on the hilltop. The Jaish-e-Mohammed runs it,” he said.

Another person, who also declined to give his name, said the militants had had a presence in the area for years.

“I belong to that area. I know for sure that there has been a training camp. It used to be there. I know Jaish people ran it,” he said.

“This camp was turned into a madrasa several years ago, but no one would still be allowed to get close to this infrastructure. There are scores of students in the madrasa at any given time,” he said.

Set in a wooded, hilly area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the way to the scenic Kaghan valley, some 40 kilometres from the de facto border with India, Balakot was of many towns that was devastated by a massive earthquake in 2005.

From what villagers could see, the Indian attack had missed its target as the bombs dropped exploded about a kilometre away from the madrasa.

Mohammad Ajmal, a 25 year-old villager near Jaba Top, where the attack took place, said he had heard four loud bangs in succession just before 3.00 am (2200 GMT).

“We couldn’t tell what had happened. It was only in the morning that we figured out it was an attack,” he told Reuters after visiting the site, in a wooded hilltop area.

“We saw fallen trees and one damaged house, and four craters where the bombs had fallen.”

Fida Hussain Shah, a 46 year-old farmer, said he and other villagers had found pieces of Indian ordnance that had splintered pine trees on the hill but the only casualty was a man sleeping in his house when shrapnel broke the windows.

One of my friend lived nearby this madrasa told me it was training camp of Mujahideen, but in 2002 musharaf banned all training camps.. And since from 2002 it was empty.. he told me indian failed to hit that empty camp and bombs dropped nearby areas.. Not a single casuality from our side..

Per google earth, a straight line from Balakot to a random location on the LoC is 42.2KM.

Mirage top speed of 2000KM/Hr or 33.3KM per minute.

Even if not at top speed and not necessarily the shortest distance between Balakot and the LoC, the 3/4 minute incursion time makes sense.

angry as it was, when is religious occasion, they shd have left enmity aside... you know, time to tell the truth is when you are under pressure.. similarly solidatry is a must, when it is most needed.. not in peace time, that ok we invite all people to langar... but in time when it is hard, to show solidarity by burying your personal hatred and prejudice...

AM, I have already calculated it. I was just thinking about the time needed to spot the target and deliver. It might have added a few minutes more. It sounds strange that the 3rd cap team which was already in air could not intercept the iaf team by then.

A glide bomb solves the conundrum.

I think you mapped to the Azad Kashmir boundary. Need to go further to the LoC. I picked a random location on the LoC and it's approximately 42.2KM, a distance covered by the Mirage 2000 in approximately 2 minutes.

The whole thing ended in just 2-3 minutes.

PAF response would good enough however it could be improved.

In fact these buggers missed their target because of PAF

In hurry they randomly fired shots and ran away.
PAF did well but some of the indian jets must be shot down. where were the awacs? why they didnt give any prior warning about incoming indian jets? we were told that our awacs can detect the enemy jets the moment they take off from their bases. it seems the indian observed the pattern of PAF CAP sorties in past one week and then they planned accordingly. used some planes to engage the CAP and then attacked with the main attacking party when alll the CAPs were engaged. the only thing that was required was few indian jets down.
